Main Menu
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

When Changes Will Come...

Those of you that follow the WotC boards know that I'm caught up in the middle of a major upgrade for that community. Wizards is finally changing the servers the boards run on and retiring the current gerbils, and the new gerbils can run laps around the hamsters at ENWorld (however, with twice the user load at any given time)...  I've been porting code from 3.0 to 3.5 and giving the multiple styles a facelift over the last few months. Indeed, when the new boards go up you'll see bits and pieces of Nutkinland over there because parts of the current NKL style are based on the WotC boards style.

Once that move is over, I will return to regular servicing of the code here. First up on the list is the installation of a gallery system.  We'll be using

http://gallery.menalto.com/

via a bridge from Drupal.

I also have other coding projects. If you know how to write PHP code and would like to help out with the community I'd be happy to sublet one project at a time out. I can't offer anything but gratitude though.

* Clean the eventfinder up and allow for recurring events.
* Allow users to provide their zip codes and allow memberlist sort by proximity using the drupal extension.
* Allow drupal categories to be used on posts to ease site indexing and location of information
* Clean up the drupal interface and make it more GUI based instead of text based.
* Address display bugs in comment threads on the drupal side.

Much of this work will start and be finished in June.  It will also occur on a dev box so that the site will not be affected by the development.

I'm going to mirror WotC's technique for development by setting up a three tier system.  Stage 1 is my personal dev box and anything may go.  Stage two will be a staging server and will be a password access site available to mods and selected *active* community members. The site you're on now will be the "production" server.  Any code changes will be tested for no less than 2 weeks on the staging server.  I'm hoping this cuts down on what few errors and bugs that are experienced here (which are thankfully few - this site is a lot more stable than my prior endevour which I inherited and I'd like to keep it that way).

If there's anything you'd like me to add to this list let me know.

And he's asking for help on the coding, if any resident code monkeys would like to help.  :)
