This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ignore list not working?

I have the dubious pleasure of desiring to use my ignore list... the system repeatedly tells me it can't find the user in the database... despite copying and pasting the name. I even added the user to my buddy list and cut it and paste it to my ignore list. No luck.

If its any assistance, the user in question has a period and a space in his name.

Well, I found someone whose name has those characteristics and was able to add them to my ignore list by viewing their profile and then clicking "Add XXXX to Your Ignore List".

Are you trying some other means?

Also, what browser are you using? Not that I can solve the problem of course but if somebody can they might find that info useful.

My therapist told me this would happen!  *breathes in and out of a brown paper bag* I feel... I feel so violated!  It's like kindergarten all over again!

I did indeed use you as a test case but un-ignored you afterward.

There's somebody else on the board that I ignored for a few days but he started posting interesting things (based on the responses others made) so I've unignored him.

Mr. Analytical

Nah, it's fair enough.  I have been grumpy of late and I was very rude about his Spycraft 2 review.  I hope he's ignored the KKK guy though, I'd hate to think that people say of this site "There's a guy who posts there that's a REAL prick and then there's a guy who runs race hate websites" :D

That works.

Yeah, I was trying to use the list under the user CP where you type in the names. Parser must be busted. I notice when it echos the name, it renders it in lower case.

You  seem rather interested. But yes, it would be.

Well, you did come across as a heckler, but I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. It's more the recent pronouncements about how people who don't live by your style of gaming are somehow inferior human beings. I could argue with you about it. But I thought it might be best just to ignore you and tarry on to discussion that is more interesting to me.

I must have missed that one.

Well it's your choice but if I'm usually exaggerating for comic effect when I say stuff like that.  I write just to enjoy the feeling of venom dripping from my fingers.  I never bear any ill will to the people I talk to online, I'm just an expert at coming across as a prick online.

So I apologise if I've offended as no offence was meant but you're free to go forth and ignore me if you choose as I do take some getting used to.

Actually that's me they're talking about. You see, I once said that I have more respect for the KKK than I do all these PC types who preach "tolerance, acceptance and respect" out of one side of their mouths while spewing hate, abuse and bigotry out of the other.

You know the kind: The guys who do the commercials decrying prejudice, hateful humor, bogotry, etc, then turn around and make hateful jokes about overwreight people, rednecks, nerds, geeks, etc.

I said I find them more odious then the KKK because they preach all this tolerance and respect while making all the hateful jokes they can about other people. I said the KKk is at least honest about how they feel and don't practice the grotesque hypocrisy that the PC types do, so I respected them for being honest and not a bunch of hypocrites.

Oh yeah, I also said that the KKK should not be abused or stereotyped because only a few klansmen actually commit violent criminal acts and most of them are law abiding and peaceful.

I said it because I just wanted to take the PC line on Islam: "Oh, only a few muslims are violent and commit terrorist acts, onl a few of them do, you can't stereotype the whole of islam because of the acts of a tiny minority..." and turn it around to apply to another group that the PC gestapo doesn't like and see how it sounded coming back at them.

So a few obvious morons took that to mean I was supporting or even belonged to the KKK and have called me "KKK man" and other retarded names. I just ignore them because a waste is a terrible thing to mind.

No.  I think you're a racist because you said all of those things and then asked if the UK had race hatred laws that might apply to a website.  A question which, when challenged, you refused to reveal your motivations for.

The fact that since then you have been trying to set yourself up as some poor oppressed mass who is picked on by the nasty PC people (who are no better than racists for attacking you for being a racist) merely further confirms this, as does your massively dishonest account of the situation.

At any point up until now you could have said clearly that you weren't a racist and that you were merely curious about international race hatred laws for reasons X, Y and Z and the whole thing would go away.

You know what it is? Well, in my case, at least. This board evolved from Nutkinland. Nutkinland was (and is) populated by some of the brightest, funniest trolls you'll find on the net.

Oftentimes they'd spread out across the net and return to NKL to report how they'd trolled elsewhere. Matter of fact, that still happens. There have been some truly spectacular trolling episodes done, from one who got himself banned at Kevin Smith's boards by Smith himself (and invited back to write a "farewell address") to a board invasion at a vampire board (people who lived like, or thought they were, actual vampires) which resulted in the denizens tacking the invaders back to NKL itself.

When you started posting some of your over-the-top stuff, it struck me that you might very well be a NKL regular posting under a troll-alt who was tipping his hand out of boredom. I fell prey to it once, but then when I figured you were just trolling for the sake of trolling, and might very well be a NKL troll at that, it made me interested to see the angle you were playing. Then, the blog in your sig made me think you weren't a NKLer, which made me think you were probably just another hyperbolizing git with too much time and too little socialization on your hands. That was a boring thought. It's good to see you say you were just in a rip-it-up mood.

You're a lot more interesting when you're having a civil discussion, in my opinion. Leave the trolling to the professional NKLers. :D

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

Mr. Analytical

Well the thing is that getting a load of people online to hate you is so incredibly easy that it's not even fun.  Because of the dehumanising effect of text-only communication it's easy to be misinterpreted.

If you're going to lob hand-grenades into the conversation (to quote Cracker) then it's far more fun to do it when you're face to face with someone.  Doing it online is a bit dull.

I'm not really a troll so to speak, it's more that I occasionally vent and have the terrible habit of picking up ideas and defending them purely for the fun of having an argument and being difficult, so I know I can be a prick online from time to time and I understand anyone that wants to ignore list me.

ColonelHardisson

I'll admit I actually considered putting you on my "Ignore List," which is pretty unusual for me. I've only IL'ed a handful of people since I started going online, and even then, I usually remove them from the IL fairly soon after.

I wasn't really all that worked up by anything you said. It's just that The RPG Site has become the place I prefer to go to for game discussions. For the most part, it's been a civil place in which free discussion of all manner of games can go on without being derailed by trolls wanting to stir up shit. When someone comes along and makes really inflammatory statements about something as unimportant (in the grand scheme of things) as a game, it's off-putting. A person doing such a thing is either socially inept or a troll. Either way, what they have to say is not going to really be conducive to a real conversation.

But, I didn't put you on the IL. This is because there seemed to be a dichotomy between your well-reasoned posts and the trollish ones, and I wanted to see how it all turned out in the end.
