This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Idea: A list of really late RPG Kickstarters?

I learned that there was a list of controversial or fraudulent Kickstarter projects on the Boardgame Geek website, but it obviously has a focus. Some searching seems to show that the other forums out there like RPGNet don't have one either.

Unless someone is aware of an online attempt to list RPG Kickstarters that are showing signs of being unfulfilled or are at least very late, maybe we can set up a pinned thread of our own as a site/public resource? I'm suggesting something simple if there's permission and interest:

  • Keep it to RPG related projects over one year from its listed fulfillment date
  • Name of Project
  • Name of Creator
  • Link to Project

Thoughts, concerns, rejection from management?

Personally I am not a fan of this kind of thing. It just always seems like a recipe for drama and feel like it would just steer us away from talking about playing RPGs (get more into the territory of discussing RPG personalities).

And I understand where you're coming from, my hope is just to "name", but the "shame" often follows. I still wish such a resource was available. Maybe there is, and I just wasn't searching right.

Speaking only for myself, I'll give a LOT more slack to a project that gives weekly or biweekly updates that show some real effort than I will to a project that posts an angry missive once every six months, so I'd want that to be part of it too.
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

Theres two or three of those lists now on BGG and they cover more than board games. Its just a matter of someone thinking enough to add something to the lists. Theres alot of stuff that isnt listed simply because its obscure or its been so long everyone has forgotten it.

If you want more RPGs listed in the KS problem lists then add them or point them out to me and I'll add them.

One reason to list stuff is that sometimes a pattern develops and you start to see where some publisher is consistently a problem, or chronically late, or actually running a scam.

Game Salute is currently the title holder for most late or screwed up KS campaigns and you have to literally scrutinize every board game or RPG KS now because they started using fronts to make it appear they werent involved. Sure the games usually ship... eventually. But have a look at the BGG list on them and its just nuts the things that have gone down so far.

Much as I hate to promote BGG. Id say makeing a list here is kinda redundant when BGG's system can do it better and the lists are allready going.

Agreed. If a project keeps me informed and acts honestly, I am cool with a year overdue. Lots of KS creators are noobs and don't recognize the amount of work ahead and then don't follow Scotty's advice from Star Trek III - multiply all your estimates by a factor of 4, then you look like a miracle worker for coming in early.

Voros

Seems like a good idea initially but I think it will just enourage a flood of nit picky, whining sociopaths.

Tenkar's Tavern kinda fills this role for RPG kickstarters

A fella knows when he's licked :).

Good points all. Usually I get my Kickstarter info from Tenkar too, but sometimes I think some straight up "here's some stuff that's getting late, proceed with caution on any new projects" would be nice.

I'm not against the idea except that the main forum is already pretty damn full of stickied threads. It would have been great to have a Kickstarter forum instead, where a stickied thtread about scams would make more sense.

Just add stuff to these as is applicable rather than starting a redundant thread here thats going to get REALLY cluttered with conversation really fast. Hate to say it. But BGG is better designed to handle it and theres allready the following which has a couple of RPGs in there allready.

Heres three. Probably others.
