This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I only opend something like 4 Threats and posted 30 comments in total, still I have the impression that almost every threat seems to go off topic VERY quickly, people start insulting each other and nobody seems to care. I just flipped through my "weirded out by strange players" threat to read some funny responses, but people do barely respond to the original topic...

Maybe I am alone with my opinion, but I don't think neither this sort of discussion nor the moderation here should be the standard for other forums.

This forum needs some serious moderation!

Hermes Serpent

The point of this forum, and I'm sure others will pipe up, is that the level of moderation you want is found on other sites and is regarded as being excessive so virtually no, or very little, moderation is done here.

You get most of what you need in terms of a topic in the first page or so. Then people want to talk.

Unlike the Big Purple, people here don't believe you can argue your point into being "true". We discuss, then move on either unimpressed, amused or vaguely informed.

It's good as it is.

We don't discuss.  We fling shit at each other.  And Pundit lets it happen cuase his side flings the most vile and flaming shit.

Hang around longer and read more and you will realize that this place is actually friendlier and talks about a wider range of game-relevant things than rpg.net or other big forums. Discussion can go off topic...and then its on a different topic. So what? And it usually comes back around to something like the original point anyway. People insult each other, but it is clear and to the point, they get it off their chests, and then everyone moves on and it isn't a big deal. I'm sure I've gotten into snits with people here but I can't remember any of the details for just this reason. All this is because there aren't self-appointed thought police and a crowd of dickish tattle tales running around telling people what to think or say.

Welcome to the adult swim. We don't really care for Centurions using their officers baton to bludgeon order into the threads.

You got three pages of answers to your own thread asking for recommendations for a system.  You still haven't replied.  You want people to engage with the topic in your threads, maybe you should look at them once in a while.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

theRPGsite is unique among RPG forums for its lack of moderation. It's an acquired taste that's not for everyone. But I've found it worth the time and effort.

I am unsure if Pipe Smoking Libertarian Wizards are a large enough demographic to constitute a "side" in the Culture War.

And if you would notice, Pundit "lets it happen" because he believes in Free Speech.

Feel free to promote "your side" as much as you like with whatever fervor you can muster. Pundy may debate you, shit on you, even flame out on you, but he won't ban you for your opinion or politics. Unless you go NAMBLA or Stormfront, but those are site rules.

The main difference I see between here at tBP (RPG.net), is that here, people spend an inordinate amount of time talking about how this place is better than RPG.net. At RPG.net, they mostly talk about RPGs.

Ouch. :D

Roleplaying Section, 4 forums, 6,159,746 posts.
Tangency Section, 2 forums, 7,117,478 posts.
If you toss in play by post the RPG section goes up, but you toss in video games and other stuff, it goes right back.

I think overall they digress even more than we do, and that's saying something.

Spike

It must be my internet naivete, but I found the opening post of this thread, back when it was on the main forum, to be one of the most singularly ridiculous things I've ever heard someone ask.

I mean... I just moved three states last month, and the very first thing on my mind was the utter lack of an oppressive boot on my neck by the local police welcoming me by ensuring I hated my new home to be....

... that's just how its supposed to work, right?

Or, even shorter: Fuck off and die, you git.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

No, you just need to grow the fuck up and stop expecting to be mollycoddled.
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

The rules can\'t cure stupid, and the rules can\'t cure asshole.

What's the difference between coddled and mollycoddled?

Spike

Mollycoddling involves doilies.
