OK, I'm going to make this request more publicly now, because it's just getting stupider than usual.

You cannot defeat a troll.  Attention is all they crave, and responding to them simply gives them more fuel and encouragement to stick around.

If you have a problem with a poster that extends beyond the argument and the subject of the actual thread and into personal petty fucking grievances and cross-site politics and accusations of ill faith, take it to a fucking PM.

It does not help the audience to derail yet another thread while you and your personal frenemy wave your baby pricks at one another in public.  That shit is boring for the rest of us.

Yes, this is a site that's all about "free speech" supposedly, but that doesn't mean we have to behave like goddamn 9 year olds because someone was mean about some other site none of us are even fucking posting to anymore, and it doesn't mean making this forum nothing but a goddamn battleground for your personal beefs that no one else gives a flying goddamn fuck about.  

It's boring, it's childish, and it serves no useful purpose for the discussion of actual RPGs, you know, the thing this fucking site is actually supposed to be about.  The tagline is "A forum for discussing roleplaying games," not "a forum for discussing how much Poster X is a big old meanface," or even, "a forum for discussing why this other forum is bad."  At least have the decency to take this shit to the off-topic forums where it belongs instead of derailing another thread about RPGs.

I think everyone here has trolled at least once. But it does seem like everyone's just pissed off for the last few months (it seemed to ramp up in December for some reason). I'd appreciate it if less people were just blatant assholes, and I know I've been attempting to not be trollish for a while now.

The recent problem is that posters are continuing arguments from other threads (and even other boards) and not even attempting to engage with the purpose of the thread they're posting in.

It just seems there's certain people who've decided certain other people are "obviously trolls", and so whenever one or the other posts, the whole fucking thread just becomes about that very, very quickly.  

The troll wins, and it's often because of no originating action of his own.  

You do not help the situation by giving them another opportunity to ramble incoherently, so just shut the fuck up, ignore list the guy, and get on with the fucking thread.

One thing that starts tickling me in the wrong places, and that's part of all you guys are talking about, is the constant "look at this RPGnet/ENWorld thread" thing going on lately on the boards. It's tedious, takes threads off tracks, and ends up making us look like Something Awful. And I really don't like the idea of creating a specific "RPGnet.txt" thread for that kind of purpose, because we would end up in the same exact place as these boards that gloat at other people on other boards.

I didn't come here to endlessly point the finger at ENWorld or RPGnet and laugh at these people. I left these places because I don't want to give a fuck about them anymore. So I wish people would just get over these places that banned them or that they left once and for all and concentrate on actual games and gaming discussion here on the RPG Site.

My IL has gotten crazy huge. I've got so many folks on it now, that I no longer even give in to the temptation to read the ignored posts as I scroll and scroll and scroll past them all.
