This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: John MorrowI would be careful about qualifying it to tightly.  "Intellectual joy" is not quite how I'd describe the enjoyment I get out of immersion.

...True enough.  I keep missing the right wording on the specific pleasure "generically" provided by Deep IC.

Quote from: John MorrowYou should look over Robin Laws' play styles and make sure that you can fit all of them in there somewhere.

Believe me, I reference that (and the RGFA FAQ printout I keep handy) much more often these days than most bodies of theory.

I'd also suggest adding in Ryan Dancey's overview of the WotC survey data, Glenn Blacow's original 4 types, and Hunter Logan's take on the subject.  If you can encompass all of those, you'll be in pretty good shape.

Shiny!

And, hey, So long as we're tossing links about...

Check this shit out.  It's about videogames, yeah, but it's also one of the places I keep spotting stuff.

Interesting.  I'll need to check it out in more detail when I have some time to think about it.  I do think that the collector, shopper, accumulator is often poorly represented in theory, too.  There are plenty of players who enjoy shopping and accumulating equipment and other stuff.
