This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, those dissappointed by what they've seen of warhammer 3e and think that a v2 clone is feasible, post your thoughts here about what you'd like to see from a clone. system, setting tropes, whatever you like. Get it off your chest and lets see if we can get some bare bones together.

I think at its core, WFRP revolves around a solid, career system - where your career places strong limitations on your skill-set.

and social mobility - which is fine for RW Europe of the period.

The arts is something that needs to be emphasised more in a RW clone game methinks.

One of the things you'll need to consider is the treatment of magic and religion. Will it be a polytheistic culture like WFRP, or Judeo-Christian with various saints and angels filling the roles of Morr, Shallya etc.? Which magical traditions will be allowed?

That's one of the biggest decisions. I'd be tempted to go with the various Saints. Lots of info readily available on them.

DeadUematsu

You ought to make magic and miracles NPC only.

Danger

I'll be happy to see anything done, with some of the names from the ol' 2nd edition involved.  Give SteveD some Inquisition and see what he does with it (or you too, Mr. OneHorseTown sir).

Want my Stone Horizons first, mind you, but the system this is based on is solid and doesn't deserve to be marginalized by a fucking boxed board game that costs half of what it takes to feed my family for a while.
I start from his boots and work my way up. It takes a good half a roll to encompass his jolly round belly alone. Soon, Father Christmas is completely wrapped in clingfilm. It is not quite so good as wrapping Roy but it is enjoyable nonetheless and is certainly a feather in my cap.

I think WFRP would be a fine system for doing an actual proper fantastical real Europe setting.

Medieval/renaissance history, but with all those myths and legends being real.

I'd especially like to see more mythic Europe settings leave Christianity in tact, instead of warping it into some sort of caricature, or leaving it out altogether.  Pendragon's about the only one I know of that does this.

This is partly though due to my desire to play a cleric/priest type character of an actual Judeo-Christian church instead of a made up string of syllables.

I would like a Chaos Court type thing. Mutations/Beastmen the results of experiments by Mad Alchemists. Demons making pacts with degenerate souls. I really like the idea of strong Judeo-Christian backdrop.

How would folk feel about old English names for career options? It might feel a bit awkward when you're talking about a German or French character, but no more so than Warhammer career names.

So, for example -

Accipitary = Falconer
Sandesman = Messenger or Ambassador
Scrimer = Fencing Master

Which is better?

Scrimer
Fencing Master (Scrimer)
Fencing Master

Edit: Well perhaps Scrimer isn't awkward for a French character as it's the English form of a French noun. oops!

jadrax

I think probably the historic name and then the description pointing out that it is a Fencing Master is the most flavourful option.

So has anyone got any ideas then, or was Haffrung correct?

I'd especially like to hear Pundit's thoughts on how to do the predominent religious strife justice.

Danger

Are you thinking of an all inclusive sort of thing, or a "core book + sourcebook(s)," kind of approach to the rules and info?

Career names: Clarity first if your audience is 21st-century folk.  I'd say list it as 'Fencing Master', and then right underneath have 'Scrimer' (France), 'blah' (Germany) or whatever, with some samples.

What real-Earth time period (span) are you guys talking about?  Analogous to WFRP Empire (as opposed to, say WH Bretonnia)?  Or something earlier/later?
Wampus Country - Whimsical tales on the fantasy frontier

"Describing Erik Jensen\'s Wampus Country setting is difficult"  -- Grognardia

"Well worth reading."  -- Steve Winter

"...seriously nifty stuff..." -- Bruce Baugh

"[Erik is] the Carrot-Top of role-playing games." -- Jared Sorensen, who probably meant it as an insult, but screw that guy.

"Next con I\'m playing in Wampus."  -- Harley Stroh

Well, i wasn't thinking of doing anything at this point.

This thread was for unhappy 3e folk to post ideas for a WFRP v2 clone. But it appears that as Haffrung suggested, really everyone has presumed that i'm writing it because i started the thread.

One thing i'm not going to do is write a game for 3 or 4 people on this forum.

Now, if people have ideas about a clone and we get 3 or 4 people willing to collaborate, then that's a different story...
