This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Learning the consequences of hubris ought to be humbling, right?

We'll see. Martial Heroes are like boxers, they are not easily humbled, even if the gods beat them savagely. We literally ended the session right after it happened, so I am in the dark on how the PC in question will respond.

Well, that promises an entertaining next session no matter which way it goes!

That's more than one session, and I'm still a couple sessions' worth behind.

Our GM notes that the supplements are organised just great, while the core book is organised in a way that assumes familiarity with the setting and system. If all the sects were organised the way they are in the supplements, she believes they'd be much easier to use!

Nice. I will have to link these on the podcast or something.

this is really helpful feedback. I have been rethinking some of the organization of the larger books. When the Ogre Gate Inn book comes out it will still follow the old format somewhat (though one big change is the sects will be in the gazetteer chapter and each sect entry will have stat blocks for sect members----techniques will still be in the technique chapter; the full NPC entries will be in the NPC chapter, but you will have the NPC stat blocks with the sect description). But I will have an opportunity to revise the organization more when I get to War of Swarming Beggars.

Would she prefer that there be a section in the book where the sects are laid out exactly like the Sects of the martial world books (so you get sect description, sect member descriptions, followed by sect Kung Fu technique descriptions)?

That would be great:)!

That does sound better, indeed.

I'm pretty sure the answer to this would be overwhelmingly positive;)!
Of course, to avoid repeating techniques' mechanics, you could just list the names, types, and page numbers of those techniques in the sect chapter, if the body of the techniques' descriptions is elsewhere. (I'm not sure whether you're planning to change the organisation completely for this book, or not).
But yeah, I'm sure she finds the Sects books much easier to reference in play, say, after rolling a suitable result on a random table or something, which might have something to do with us encountering them more often than Golden Dragon members, or it might be because the Golden Dragons don't like Silken Robes:D!

Asen, let me know if that was the correct pronunciation of your name.

Well, thank you...but sorry, but it's not:).
The "A" is pronounced as the "a" in "father" (or as the "a" in Spanish pronunciation).
The rest of it is right, though.
Well, if you want to read it right, listen at this but put the emphasis on the "e". (The reasons I don't spell it that way are obvious, I guess:D)!

Boring regional history details time: Generally, that's not a big deal, but my name specifically is "sensitive to mispronounciation". Like, "there are wrong pronunciations that might lead to picking a fight" kind of sensitive:p!
No, I'm not joking (though most foreigners would be assumed to simply not know better).
Yes, I have punched people for it (admittedly, they knew it and were trying to pick the fight, so it wasn't mispronunciation). Granted, the last time was in high school, and nobody saw it as a big deal.
Even more details: pronouncing it as Asan (the same "a" as in "father" in both cases) actually suggests bad things about the parentage of the man you're addressing.
The reasons for this are specific to the history of the region, but it's pretty much the same as the reasons why it's unadvisable to adress an African American man as "boy", AFAIK. Or like telling a half-orc "you have a tragic family backstory, right?"
Alas, the "natural" spelling of my name actually leads some French speakers to spell it the exact wrong way:D!
On the plus side, the way you're pronouncing it isn't offensive. You don't have to edit anything because of it, as far as I'm concerned. But since you asked...well, if I didn't use the opportunity to nitpick some topic to death, I wouldn't be following the forum culture;)!

As a bonus, similar "offensive puns" are good for picking a fight in wuxia games. Granted, it's more of a "people in Jianghu pick their names to have meanings, yet your name is Yuan*...is it like the yuan character in "yuan" or like the Yuan in "Yuan"? I'd like to know whether I need to offer you silver, or horses, if I want to have your sister!"
(Yuan might refer to the Mongolian dynasty, or to money).

Apologies on that. I think I have it after listening to that clip.

People are always calling me Brandon. Next time I'll try punching them in the face and see if that correct the problem :)

As stated above, no apologies necessary:)!

I suspect the punching might correct the problem, but keep in mind you're living in a different country with different legal consequences for such actions. For that matter, it would have different consequences for me as well, now, since I've been out of high school for a while;)!
