This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Buffy] Werewolves

Came up with some werewolf rules on my site, thought I'd pop them up here for the peanut gallery.  What do you all think, sound good?

Controlling the Beast:  For most werewolves, the change is a curse - three nights a month the character is transformed into a rampaging beast.  A few have learned to control these impulses, to reign the Beast in.  The Werewolf Quality is split into four stages.

    * Cursed (-3): A Cursed Werewolf is one with the Drawback version.  They change into a wolf form on the three nights of the full moon and are unaware of their actions.
    * Suppressed (0): A Suppressed Werewolf has managed to control his transformations.  Through meditations, special techniques, and sheer willpower they manage to keep from changing.  If exposed to danger, extreme stress, or strong anger they must roll Willpower (doubled) to avoid transforming.  Should he change, the Suppressed Werewolf will have no control over his actions.
    * Aware (6): An Aware Werewolf has mastered the Beast enough that he can control his actions while transformed.  Note than unless he fails a Willpower (doubled) roll under extreme conditions he can only change during the three nights of the full moon.  Further, if he changes for stress, pain, or anger he will not be in control of his actions.
    * Controlled (12):  This wolf has mastered his Beast.  He can change to and from his wolf form at will, though it is possible to provoke an unwanted change.  Even in that case he gets a Willpower (doubled) roll each round to keep his senses and not fly into a murderous rage.

Moving up the scale is a matter of spending XP and roleplaying.  The Director must agree that the character has been working on controlling his urges and not allowing the Beast to rule him.  If the character gives in too often, or frequently takes human life, the Director may be justified in moving them down the scale as well.

Silver:  Silver is hated by Werewolves, as it is supernaturally effective against them.  Blunt damage deals double damage against them from a silver weapon, while slashing/stabbing and bullet damage does triple damage (instead of double).  Further, this damage will not heal more quickly when they are in wolf form (see below)

Healing:  The above rules put Werewolves at a bit of a disadvantage compared with the rules in the Core Rulebook.  So, to make it up and better fit in with werewolf myths, werewolves also gain an enhanced healing ability.  They will recover from wounds at the same rate as Slayers, healing their Constitution in LP per hour.  This applies only while they are in wolf form, and does not work against damage done with silver weapons.
I have a theory, it could be witches, some evil witches!
Which is ridiculous \'cause witches they were persecuted Wicca good and love the earth and women power and I'll be over here.

Seems reasonable enough.  I haven't played Unisystem with werewolves in it before so I really don't know.

So this is to replace the rules for werewolves already in the corebook I guess.

No, this is in addition.  Werewolves still get the attirbute modifiers, Enhanced Sense (Scent) and all that.  And the costs are the same for the 6 point, 12 point, and 3 point drawback versions.  Just added the 0 cost to represent a werewolf like Oz after he left, able to control his changes except in extreme situations.

I like the additions.

I approve of these Beerwolves.

Very nice. I like. I'd like to see some variant "shapeshifters" too in the future. (I like ones that fit mythic or folkloric werewolves.)

The rules for creating demons in the Angel RPG are usable for creating a variety of shapeshifters, by using the "Supernatural Form" option.  It's not perfect, but the Buffy RPG is about eyeballing rather than exact balance.

I prefer Buffy myself of the two.
