This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What would you like to see in SC3E? If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it right...

All the rules for everything in the core book. All the aliens that are playable, all the technology, all the spaceships and rules to construct them, the game play rules and setting.

Make it the most massive SC game ever!  Plus a few hundred adventure seeds/things left for PC's to do or be important at doing.

Hi Tim!

Just remember, this will be based on In Harm's Way: StarCluster rather than SC2E. There will be lots and lots of tools to create stuff instead of lists to choose from. I get what you are saying, though.

I'm slightly cormfused here. Is SC3 a setting book then and IHW:SC the rules? I'm only just digesting the freebie Starcluster 2E (late on that, serves me right for being offsite a bit, tut tut) but IIRC it was rules and setting.

Edit: Okay...looked at the site. So IHW:SC is military only, and SC3 will be based on IHW:SC *ruleswise* but perhaps be the full montey.

Erm, ok then I'd like for it to complement IHW:SC but neither supplant nor require it and be a good synthesis / collation of major options from SC2 works. But hopefully not get too huge in the process.

Hi Casey!

Yes - SC3E will be based on IHWSC *rules-wise* but be focused on civilian play. For example, IHWSC has rules for building 300,000 ton capital ships - about three times the size of a Nimitz class carrier. If I include ship-creation rules in SC3E, which I intend to, you would not be able to build anything like that. You also wouldn't have access to drop tubes, heavy weaponry, stealth capabilities, and the like. OTOH, you would have access to a lot of amenities for shipboard life that the military would not be interested in.

So you think I should fold in the rules for robots, uplifts, and bioroids, currently in supplements, as well as things like the Starship Crew supplement, which talks about how to run a starship and what to do aboard one, space permitting? That kind of stuff?

How large do you want this to be Clash?  How convenient for people to access?  I think that if you are going to have the civilian play stressed you might need to write up a little more side bar type thing showing what the character can do.  Or give suggestions also on possible uses for such characters.  You definitely need to have rules for robots though.  Can't forget them!

Hi Bonni!

That's a big question, and one I hope I can get a handle on with this thread. I would like to keep it max about the same size as IHWSC, which is already on the edge of too big. I hope to cram into that space as much as I possibly can. Hopefully, based on what you guys say, I can classify things as BASIC, MUST HAVE, WOULD BE COOL, IF THERE'S SPACE, and NOT NEEDED.

I can see that you're in trouble already because the "not needed" category is impossible since we always think everything is needed (grins).  Good luck and after my midterms I'll think about it more.

That is why I said *I* would classify them, not you guys! If it was us to you guys, everything would be in it with nothing in supplements, it would be 64 pages long, staple bound, in a box set, well supported with supplements, crammed with illos, hardbound, wtih no illos - only diagrams and maps, with copious examples, digest sized, full color, with a fully developed setting, several adventures, no setting - just generators, include at least a dozen task resolution systems including your favorite, be old school yet cutting edge, beautifully laid out, elegantly edited, and retail for under $15 at your local drug supermarket.

Hey I object!  We'd still want Illustrations! (grins) and the current price you offer your excellent stuff at is sufficient.  :)

flyingmice

Here's what I am currently thinking, based in part by what you guys have said:

BASIC

CharGen - Stats by Random, Determined, and Template means
CharGen - Human and Humanoid option examples
CharGen - Uplift, Bioroid, and Robot option examples
CharGen - Backgrounds as in IHW games rather than Primary Schooling.
CharGen - Colleges and Advanced Schooling
Chargen - Civilian Professions and Intensive Training
Task Resolution - At least three different sub-systems
Setting - System Generator
Setting - Diasporan background and Cultural Lineages
Setting - Alien Generator
Spaceships - Example Civilian Ships
Spaceships - Space Travel & Civilian Combat System
Vehicles - Example Civilian Vehicles
Equipment - Example Civilian Weapons
Equipment - Personal
NPCs - NPC Generator

MUST HAVE

Spaceships - Civilian Ship creation system
CharGen - Planetary Edges
CharGen - Human and Humanoid options
CharGen - Implants and Genetic Modifications
Vehicles - Civilian Vehicle Combat system
Setting - Local Area Definition

WOULD BE COOL

CharGen - Uplift, Bioroid, and Robot options
Spaceships - Starship Crew section
Vehicles - Vehicle Creation system
Equipment - Weapon Creation system
Setting - Adventure Generator

IF THERE'S SPACE

Sample Adventure
Cluster Religions

NOT NEEDED

StarCluster 2E Setting
StarCluster 2E Aliens
Martial Arts
Dueling
