This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

SCOTLAND! The RPG

Ok, here's the premise: the players all play modern day Scotsmen who for some unfathomable reason decide that they have to take up the old highland garb and Claymores and liberate Scotland from the hated English.

Stuff it would need: silly names tables, silly career tables, silly incidental problems tables, and... anything else?

Examples: Angus "Unusual Odor" McCormick, a badly alcoholic kipper salesman from Aberdeen
Stuart "Trippy" McGregor, a deeply indebted garbageman from Dundee
Daniel "one-way" MacQueen, an excessively normal accountant from Inverness

first adventure: where the devil to find a Claymore and highland garb?

The Glaswegian Urban Haggis would be the one you're thinking of. Raised on a diet of fish suppers and Special Brew it has been known to haunt the tunnels of the Clockwork Orange leaping out to attack innocent jakies on their way home from the pub.

The Angus Free-range Haggis OTOH is a shy peaceful creature best known for having it's left legs shorter than the right. The best way to catch the Angus is to run at it clockwise around the hill so it panics and rolls down the hill when it tries to turn ending up in the net held by your mate at the bottom.

There would need to be special rules for the consumption of Buckfast Tonic Wine and Tennants Super Lager. Perhaps these are the key to unlocking mysterious powers? Or perhaps they just turn you into a Ned?

Minimum requirement for gallons of Irn Bru drunk per day?

Deep fried Mars bar, anybody?

Instead of a Sanity mechanic, you could have a "Debt Level to the Midlands Bank" mechanic.  The higher it becomes, the harder it will be to make your "Get someone to lend you 50 quid till tuesday" rolls, and thus fund the campaign to restore the Stuart monarchy to the throne of Scotland!

I would need to be Bank of Scotland or the Clydesdale Bank, surely?

Or an account with the Post Office.

Gah, I've only just moved up here and already I'm familiar with the customs of the locals!

Thanks
