This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Savage Worlds] Running a new Fantasy-Horror Game

Got a friend who hasn't been able to game in some time, thanks to his work schedule. I think I am going to run him a horror-fantasy game of my own devising. He recently let me borrow the first three books of the Noble Dead series by Barb & JC Hendee. It's about a dhampir and a half-elf who have been moving from village to village conning townspeople by making them believe the half-elf is a vampire and she's a vampire slayer. This all takes an ironic twist when she encounters a vampire who thinks she's stalking him.

I won't say anything else for fear of spoilers, but it has made me want to run a fantasy game again, and he got very excited when I mentioned it...so I am going to cook up a solo game for him using that as a rough guideline. (Not the plot, mind you, but a low-fantasy horror type setting).

I will probably be stealing neat stuff from the books that I like, plus mining the crap out of other fantasy and horror games I own for inspiration...mostly because I haven't hammered out a real homebrew in AGES.

Anyway, just thought I would toss that out there. I am thinking the ultimate "big bad" might wind up being an Iron Lich from the Iron Kingdoms Monsternomicon...not sure yet. Since I am running this on short notice, I figure the first adventure will be a basic set-up with a few paths for him to follow at the end, and let that dictate where I grow the campaign over time.
