Enjoy!
I'd just like to thank Bill for running it. I t was a blast, and the first game outside of D&D I've played in since...well...since I can remember...
Iridium, the inderlying system, is one I've studied a bit and had conversations with Bill about. Once I got the hang of it, it flowed more smoothly than I thought. For the first time, Im rethinking my roll-over prejudice (something about roll under percentage just worked intuitively for me).
We didn't hit the first combat for almost two hours - it was all basic investigation and role playing before that. And fun! It was most interesting for me from the perspective that I've never played in a game with such a strong command influence - and I was in command. This made me much more aware of meta-game issues to make sure that everyone got chances as that, to some extent, was influenced by my ability to command people in character. Part of it was made easier by the pregen character having a Code of Taking Care of Those Under His Command as his greatest priority. It was very interesting.
Bill ran the entire thing from essentially little or no notes, flowed with the splitting up of the party, and helped with everyone who was unfamiliar with the system - which was everyone at the table! Only a bit of hand waving for conventions sake and everything else went smoothly.
Unfortunately the end was rushed as we ran long - which seems to be common in investigation-type adventures as things are so open to looking into and the players don't want to miss anything.
I had a great time, and look forward to the chance to play other HinterWelt games that use the Iridium system - I might even get a chance to play a space opera game for the first time in my life!
Thanks Bill
PS: and don't even get me started on how generous Bill was - my son now has a little Squirrel Attack! t-shirt that says, on the back, "Know your Nuts. Handle them every day" with pictures of all diffferent kinds of nuts - acorns, walnuts, etc. His mother says it will be pajamas, for now ;)
Well thanks Jim. It was great to have you in the game and to meet you IRL. The role was a tough one but something told me that you would be able to handle it. The Optio was a key figure that I knew the group would need to have in order to have the sway and influence with Bato to make it work.
As an aside, I usually run games that are more like the first half. Combat is not the focus of any game I run. It can (and should) be exciting but not the whole thing. It is tough to run a game like that in a convention setting...they sort of devolve to combat for the most part.
Well, I hope to run Neb next and we will see how it goes. I also wouldn't mind running Squirrel Attack!...maybe Shaolin Squirrels.
Thanks for playing and the kind words. It was good talking to you after the game.
Bill
Sounds like it was fun.:D
I assume that most of those folks are ENworlders?
You know, one woman, Wendy, said she had just signed up. The rest were regulars methinks.
Regardless, fun had by all.
Although, I must say, I wish you had been around to play.
Thanks,
Bill

Unfortunately, I did not. Maybe my spam filter is being nasty.

Next game day is...what...October? What will you run, Bill?

I don't know. You and Mark seemed interested in Nebuleon. I might consider Shaolin Squirrels especially if you can convince your cute wife to join in. ;)
Side note: What did I tell you? Wendy, "Oh, Squirrels!"...Man, an now that you have seen my dumpy self you must admit, it's the game. It has mojo! :D
Bummer about Gen Con but who knows what will happen. I suspect Clash will be more busy than he lets on and we will not get to play.
