This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Wuxia Space Opera character ideas

Ghost Whistler

I present the working concepts for each of the three* Callings (vocations) a hero (that's the player character) may choose from in the hopefully exciting and hopefully-one-day-actually-finished world of Wuxia Space Opera.

Wu Engineers:
A hero whose calling is Wu Engineer can begin play with a number of Tien artifacts. These are powered by Chi and can only be powered so long as the Engineer has Chi to work them. It is the goal of this secretive sect, the most ardent supporters of Neitech (cyberware) in the ten thousand stars, to unlock the secrets of the Tien; the ancient super-culture that ruled the 10,000 stars and defeated Feng Du. They did so from a legendary place: the Diamond Garden. Said to be both a place of chi and technology, here the elders, the immortal Hsien, ruled. The greatest of of whom was the Sublime Golden Engineer.
The Engineer can also make use of the divinatory art of the Sacred Gears as well as the ability to craft better repairs for equipment and vehicles. The Sacred Gears are engine parts taken and prepared in Jadefire; the resultant patterns and shapes of the melting parts and the colours of the flames, all hold meaning allowing the Engineer to divine truth or predict the future. In this way he can see the best tactics for a situation, or discern the reality from a created fiction. Through similar arcane preparations, the Engineer can effect unconventional and highly effective repairs and technological improvements.

Wulin:
A hero that's a member of one of the Houses of the Wulin knows their special fighting arts. They may also have access to the ancient unique armoury the House possessed, dating back to the Chi Wars. This period of unrest, after the time of the Tien, was the greatest period of unrest in the 10,000 galaxies. The time when there were said to be ten thousand warlords and ten thousand claims to the galaxy that threatened to see it all burn in fire and war. The Wulin Houses were born as a means to bring order to these claims and fight on the behalf of the greatest warlords through honour and skill.
Wulin are also bound by loyalty and honour: the former allows them to compel others to their service whom they may call upon at a later date. This of course is a two way street. Honour, which is garnered through deed and word, not only impacts on the above, but can also increase the hero's fighting ability. Conversely Wulin are the most susceptible to Corruption which can work against them more than any other calling.

Demon Hunter:
A hero whose career has been in service of the secret sect of Demon Hunters has long been a member of the Jiang Hu. This intergalactic fringe organisation has long been under the control of the Demon Hunters who use it as a front.
A hero that hunts the denizens of the Hell Worlds is skilled in using Corruption as a weapon. Corruption is the power that fuels Demon Arts; corrupted Chi that is often called Devil Breath.
Demon Hunters can use a unique power called Joss, this is the power Demon Hunters can use, through Chi, to control Demons. Many Hunters have been instrumental in the redemption of Demons. After a lifetime of service, the Demon, bound by the codes and laws of Joss (Joss is to Hunter and Demon as loyalty is to the Houses of the Wulin), is granted the grace of the Lords of Jade and is given a place in the Celestial Mandate. Hunters with Demon servitors can call on them by spending Joss, which can also be used within the realms of Feng Du, the Demon Emperor, to barter favour and gain currency as a literal 'Hell money'.

*There may be a fourth type; Dragon Shaman but it may get folded into Engineer as it was originally based around pilots and space combat.

Players can also choose from the following races:

Kuo - baseline humans.
Genbu - big, slow, precise, methodical and tough (Genbu is based on the wuxing concept of the turtle).
Luduan - austere, blue skinned, honest to a fault but somewhat unforgiving. They can tell when you're lying.
Jian - this one's going to be tricky: the original idea was to have a twin being, a gemini kind of concept, for an avian type, but i fear that will be rather awkward.
Mechanchurian - the working phrase for a robot.
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.
