Walmart+MegaMalls+Matrix=AAARGH!!!
Here's the deal: mega-marts and mega-malls eventually divided the earth between them, saving the small remainder of the planet's surface for production and habitation. Peace, of course, was not to last - ending in an exchange of biochem, mutagenic and robotic weaponry that wiped out most of the population and caused catastrophic malfunctions the central computers that operated these country-sized commercial properties.
Now, the remnants of humanity wander from aisle to aisle, store to store, scavenging what useful products remain. They also have to avoid the robots that still protect the merchandise with deadly force. Worse yet are the shelf-stocker 'bots, as those drag captives away to the subterranean processing facilities that still turn raw materials into new things for the shelves. Let the buyer beware - that energy drink you just chugged may once have been your buddy!
Living in the middle of nowhere with Walmart the only store to get certain things for many, many miles gives one strange ideas...
I also had the idea to make a d100 table to determine the contents of the store or aisle the PCs are running into for cover from those mutated walking goldfish from that burnt-out pet store...
Wal-Mart Post-Apocalypse? There's a thousand-or-so-page thread on the wizards boards about that... I'll have to see if I can dig it up for you.
It figures. I can never seem to come up with something fun and original. Oh well. Thanks for the forum dig!
You could run it with Paranoia XP with minimal changes. It'd be the only system I can think of that would preserve the silliness and fun.
That...could be really awesome. On the other hand, it could be serious too...
Who am I kidding? If it has a d1000 table to determine the content of a given aisle of the store the pc's run into, it CAN'T be serious.
