This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Off my rocker..Cyborg Commando.

I mentioned this elsewhere. I've been thinking about it a lot, and the basic idea of Cyborg Commando--Cyborg Soldiers who fight an alien invasion. Is filled with lots of fun for an action focused role-playing game.

I've decided to write a very very loose homage to it. It won't use the rules, names, or anything but the inherent idea of human cyborgs vs alien invaders. Its system will be something new I concoct to allow for a variety of fun technical things that my current games don't do well.

So what would you do if given the mandate to rewrite Cyborg Commando, or write an homage?

Ensure it has the Sex skill.

I actually liked the CC core mechanic of 2d10 and multiple to two dice results. I am surprised no one has picked it up for another game,

Yeah d10x was interesting.  Also the CC's themselves, which looked kind of like cyberhumans, but were actually disembodied brains in a robotic body, made for interesting characters I thought.

seems like some cross over there and all ideas will be welcomed.

Cool. I'll take a look.

Anyone have good suggested reading for research purposes? I've got a few of my own (Starship Troopers, Armor, etc...)

You can begin and end with Timothy Zahn's Cobra series.  The first trilogy is a Vietnam allegory, for what that's worth.

Marvel's Strike Force Morituri bears some similarities,  but I don't think there's anyway you're ever going to find that in print.
D&D is becoming Self-Referential.  It is no longer Setting Referential, where it takes references outside of itself. It is becoming like Ouroboros in its self-gleaning for tropes, no longer attached, let alone needing outside context.

I own a complete run of Strike Force Morituri. So I'm good there.
I'll check the Cobra series.

I have not been paying attention; these were hella out of print due to rights issues but Peter Gillis seems to have relented and they were reprinted earlier this year in TPB by Marvel.  There also seem to be rumours of a feature film.

Awesome. I knew the former was planned but not that it was out.
The last I heard of the latter Sci-Fi had the rights, and were doing a "TV" series, which usually means not so good.

Rights issues again.  SciFi and Marvel had a development deal for a TV show called "1000 Days" (not at all coincidentally, 1000 days ~= 3 seasons ~= the number of episodes you need for syndication, but I digress).  It fell through when Peter Gillis' lawyers pointed out to both of them that they didn't actually have the rights to SFM, and up until very recently Peter Gillis was staggeringly disinterested in licensing SFM for any purpose whatsoever.

Minor quibble.

It would be nice if we could get a movie, or better yet mini-series which accurately portrayed the first "face" class we saw in the comics, and there deaths. It be interesting.

Likely never going to happen, but still.
IT might be interesting to spin the Bionic Soldier setting a bit similarly to SFM, but I'm not wanting to rewrite the base idea, much. Nor do I want humanoid enemies. (Despite the fact that the Horde was very very nasty.) They made most Marvel Aliens seem like Mary Poppins. However, it can be a great inspiration for what the alien Xenobugs do.

That was what I was suggesting SFM for, as well as the "doomed last stand" vibe.

Spoiler
The scene where the team discovers the Horde are using the severed heads of captured civilians as dog-brain AIs for their battledroids still gives me the chills.
