This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ghost Whistler

Looking for critique on my list of attributes and the skills ordered under them, the purpose of which is to locate redundant or missing skills. The system is to roll dice + attribute + skill => difficulty.

Attributes: Martial (might, fighting, strength), Speed (alertness, quickness, movement), Presence (charisma, intuition and creativity), Intellect (wisdom and knowledge), and Chi (inner strength, spirit).

Skills:
Martial:
Fighting (melee combat, includes self defence)
Guns (fighting with firearms and ranged weapons)
Ordnance (use of heavy and vehicle weapons)
Intimidate (the ability to dominate another through force of might).
Speed:
Quickness (speed and reflexes)
Manoeuvre (precise movement, including silent or stealthy pace and climbing)
Alertness (situational awareness)
Vehicles (operation of vehicles and mounts, but not starships)
Presence:
Influence (influencing the behaviour of another in an intimate fashion)
Perform (oratory and influence of groups through words or art)
Craft (composition and design)
Lore (customs and protocols).
Intellect:
Interface (computer systems)
Engineer (technology and repair)
Study (academic knowledge and the means to teach or learn).
Pilot (starship operation).
Chi:
Healing (first aid and medicine)
Focus (gathering inner power)
Confidence (the ability to dispel fear or intimidation).
Empathy (body language and interpersonal behaviour)
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

That question can't be answered unless you can explain what kind of game that is. A game set in a romantic on the Old West might crave other traits than a game of super-powered Special Ops or traveling Do-Gooders.

This is Ghost's Wuxia Space Opera game.

I would say that the need to get symetry I think has over ridden logic.

You have You five stats which is fine. But insisting on having exactly 4 skills in each means you put vehicals in Speed and intimidate in Martial and craft and lore under Presence none of which seem like good fits.

Lore is about customs, not laws or politics.
While Intimidate is a function of physical presence.

The attributes borrow from the five elements to a degree, hence the confusion.

I can see the 5 element stuff but ... a knowledge of customs really isn;t related to presence, when I was at Uni doing anthropology there were plenty of folk with a great knowledge of customs but absolutely no presence :)

Your call though, your game after all.

Well shuffling them around isn't the biggest problem, I'm more concerned with things that players might want to do that are left out. The skills are a broad church because i'm not a fan of lots and lots of skills/sub skills and so forth.

I could just go with Mind, Body and Spirit, for attributes. No need to be a slave to the wuxing model, even if that does make the game sound like the dodgy part of any bookshop.
