This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Need help with a weapon quality name

So in the game I am designing I have various qualities or special abilities for weapons. One of these is an Ability to basically ignore the advantage the opponent gains from a Shield. This quality is common on Axes of all kinds, some Pole Arms and most Flails and other flexible weapons.

Currently, this Quality is called Vicious, but none of my play testers like this name, although the useless sods have not been able to come up with anything better.

Anyone got any ideas?

Depends a bit on whether most weapons with the property just attack around the shield like a flail or khopesh, or you just see them as going through a shield in some cases (axes?).

I'm not so sure about the axes. Actually, I remember hearing of a nasty viking trick where they would let a foe embed their axe in their shield, then pull the shield back to get the attackers' wrist into position to sever it...

But anyway.

I think you should call it, 'Penetration; and just sit back and enjoy the fun every time anyone uses it in game.

I don't think so no, its probably better as one word but its not necessary.

I already used that for armour piercing. ;o)

These would be my titles for a quality; you could mix or match the words-

Incise Power

Flay Strength

Bypass Shield or Bypass

mcbobbo

Since you are mixing the "bypass" and "overpower" concepts, what about...

Aggressive

As a counter to shields being Passive, perhaps.

Onslaught-ive (whatever that word is)

The Traveller

Shattering, rending, splitting, hewing, breaking, shivering, cracking, curling, or combinations thereof.  I like shattercurling myself.

Blackhand

What sort of weapons will have this quality?

Chain weapons?  Then give it the quality "chain".

If it will apply to many weapons (though I really don't think it should) you could simply call it "Massive".  i.e. Massive Axe, ignores shield bonus.
Blackhand 2.0 - New and improved version!

This quality is common on Axes of all kinds, some Pole Arms and most Flails and other flexible weapons.

Specifically:
  • Hatchet
  • Battleaxe
  • Greataxe
  • Polearm (Basically this covers halberds and the like, but not 'Spear headed' weapons).
  • Flail
  • Fighting Iron
  • Whip

The Traveller

  • Fighting Iron
Also good for getting those stubborn wrinkles out of chainmail for the modern barbarian who demands/deserves more.

I'm sorry, I had a really good day today, I'm a little wired. All done.

What about the obvious one, Shield Bashing?
