This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

FitXP

We're lifelong gamers, but also fitness enthusiasts, and wanted to find a way to combine a pen-and-paper game with all the benefits of living an active lifestyle. Enter FitXP: The Journey.  We created a fitness tracking guide that plays like an RPG, and we're inviting everyone to check it out over at  http://kck.st/UucyAO.

It goes without saying that a lot of people start exercise programs with the best of intentions, but fall off because they lose interest. It also goes without saying that RPG's are badass, so we combined the two into our guide.  As you finish your workouts, you'll earn XP, level up, and find yourself engaged in a story that spans 40 days.

FitXP: The Journey is currently over 40% funded, and we would love it for everyone to give it a look at Kickstarter.  We also enjoy feedback, and would love to hear what everyone thinks about the project, so check it out, and shoot us an email!

Thanks,
Kevin

Looks cool. How does this compare to Fitocracy?

Thanks for the response!

The biggest question we get asked about FitXP is "Why did you choose to produce a physical book instead of an app?" We agree there are some great fitness tracking apps out there, one of the largest being Fitocracy.  So what makes us different?  Let's start by looking at what we both offer.

FitXP: The Journey and Fitocracy are both fitness tracking devices that attempt to "gamify" the act of exercise.  RPG elements (earning XP, leveling up, etc.) lend themselves well in the attempt to build a motivation system, therefore both of us use them in our product.  The end goal of both companies is to help keep people engaged in a regular workout regimen, as many people quit due to the boredom of just doing the same thing over and over again.

There are a few differences between both products, and the biggest one is that Fitocracy is an app, while FitXP: The Journey is a physical guide. We opted for this because we wanted our game to be easy to play, and apps can sometimes be confusing to use.  While most apps do provide search options and FAQ's to make their product easier to use, our book has no learning curve whatsoever.  Do your exercise, write it down, on to the next one.  No wasted time searching through an app looking for something specific.  Less wasted time = more productive time spent in your workout.

With FitXP, we've created an actual pen-and-paper RPG to accompany the effectiveness of workout tracking.  We're giving you a story that spans 40 days worth of workouts, during which you'll encounter memorable characters and dangerous enemies.  The XP and leveling up system will tie directly into your interactions with these characters, and also into a goals and rewards program that the user will define before starting the game.  We specifically wanted our leveling up system to mean something more than just titles or badges.

While we believe that participating in an active lifestyle should be a lifelong commitment, there is also something empowering about "finishing" a project.  When you finish the last page of FitXP, you'll have logged 40 workouts  and really feel a sense of accomplishment, ready to take on the next challenge!  Our long-term goal is to produce a series of different gaming style fitness guides, so users would be able to choose from an array of different experiences.

I hope this addresses any questions you may have about FitXP: The Journey, and invite you to check us out at  http://kck.st/UucyAO to help make our dream to end exercise boredom a reality!

Thanks,
FitXP

I've always thought that World of Warcraft on the Kinect for Xbox would be the ultimate fitness engine.  All that running and then flapping your arms around.
