This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My Zombie Game

I'm working on a zombie RPG. Have been for a while now, slowly.

Here's a quick overview of the setting:

QuoteThe basic premis of the game will be that North Korea developes a new bioweapon that in their testing kills people within a few hours of infection. They send a typhoid mary into the US and the infection begins to spread.

The part the Koreans didn't account for is that the US would have time to combat the spread. In the course of the spread anti-virals were used in hopes that it would slow or stop the infection. Instead, the anti-virals caused the virus to mutate into an even more invasive form that congregate on the brainstem. Aftert the host dies the virus reactivates eletrical impulses in the brainstem, which is just enough to reanimate the corpse.

Large portions of the country are in chaos due tot he walking dead. The east & west coasts were hit the worst with people who had the means and opportunities flee to islands and the midwest. There seem to be small pockets of survivors on both coasts but the majority of the surviving people are the midwest.

Small "forts" dot the midwest ranging from no more than a defensable mall, prison, or school to a full featured castle.

The Koreans plans were to allow the virus to due its work and then come in an cleanse the coutry and begin it's take over. With this plan in mind, they begin to land planes in across the midwest to establish bases of operations. They are not, however, prepeared for the walking dead that meet them.

So, players try to survive the zombie plague, the invading Koreans, all the while trying to avoid conflict with other forts, roving bands of raiders, and internal conflict.

Here's a link to the begining of a short story set in the above setting: "School's Out: Zombies in Suburbia". It should give you an idea of what the zombies are like.

The system is based on VS Monsters and I'm just in the begining stages of modifing it for my purposes. I'm looking to beef up the VS monster engine a bit.

I don't know if this will help but here is a link I found interesting.

One quick thought, I would think N. Korea might want a few allies with them, even if they are meant to be betrayed later in order absorb some of the monetary cost and bloodshed.
It is unbecoming for young men to utter maxims.

Yeah, I've seen that sight. It's pretty cool.

I've thought about a N. Korea/Iran alliance.

If the President in your campaign world has any cajones.  North Korea would be a nuclear wasteland by the time their troop planes got over here.

Sounds like a fun game.

Well, yes, but by time the Koreans showed up the country has already started to to hell. The military still functions but large portions of the government is lost. So the president essentially has unlimited power and upon finding out the Koreans & Iranians are behind the outbreak authorized the launch of nukes.

So in the US they have Koreans and Iranians invading in addition to a zombie infestation. Granted the Koreans and Iranians didn't expect to see zombies when they showed up. Korea and Iran have just been hit with nukes and the US is awaiting retaliation.

If nukes come back and hit major cities what affect would it have? New York is already heavily  infested with zombies, pockets of suriviors still exist but not too many are still alive. A nuke hitting NY might be benificial......

Let's say the US has successfully crippled whatever nuclear progress N. Korea and Iran made.  At this point, they have burned the bridges.  They can't go back to their own countries due to being irradiated and nobody else wants them (or to help the US).  They would become even more desperate to conquer the US in order to have a homeland.  Also, why not throw China into the mix since it's becoming a superpower.   That way, there can be a three way to pillage (China) verses establishing a place to live (N. Korea and Iran).

Well, it's your campaign and I don't want to sound like I am trying to take it over or anything:)

Actually I have China doing their best to contain the outbreak within their own borders, trying to sweep it under the rug. It's just the "bird flu". at about this time frame.

Some of the N. Koreans make it back home....and that's bad news for N. Korea and Asia in general. Iran heard reports from their people and refused to allow them back, even shot down one of their own transports.

Current environment has the US falling apart, N. Koreans and Iranians trying to carve out a safe zone. US military command is scattered but have several functioning independant units. Mercenaries, Gangs, and pirates have extablished themselves .

N. Korean and China are both in the midst of outbreaks, most countries have active outbreaks of varying severity and others have been totally wiped out.

Heavy outbreak zones are in east Asia lightening into eastern europe, Africa is heavily infected, North America is heavily infected lessening as you go south.

Still, the outbreak is getting wider and thicker in as time goes.

Thanks, Josh.

I'm in the middle of writing up a more detailed batch of fluff, should be about 20-25 pages of fluff + a short story of about 8 pages, I'm figuring about 10-15pages for rules (I have some mook rules in the works)and GM Tools. Another 5-10 or so pages for zombies creation, templates, and pregen characters.

So I hope to have the game finished all in about 50 pages and the story(ies) will be seperate documents for optional downloads.
