2 to 6 equals Failure.
7 to 9 equals Partial Success.
10 to 12 equals Complete Success.
What do you think?
I rolled a 5. Failure. :(
It works.

Are you talking without any sort of modifier? Because technically it's 10+, since with mods you can get up to a 16 (assuming a max roll, +3 stat and +1 from a forward or ongoing).
50% failure rate?

That Dungeon World stole its mechanics from Better Games, the company which put out Space Gamer magazine in the 90s.

For my money, Better Games did it better, but sadly they had no budget as a 1990s small press.

What do you think?
Not enough degrees of success/failure. Rule system may be a bit LITE.

You mean
Apocalypse World stole its mechanics from Better Games. DW came out after AW, and uses the "Powered by the Apocalypse" system.

Eh, to be fair
Dungeon World doesn't look like it had a budget, either.

What do you think?
I think it's more or less an accurate, but incomplete, description of the core mechanic in Powered by the Apocalypse games, barring the correction antiochcow already made.
Quote from: NYTFLYR;106965050% failure rate?
An unmodified 2d6 roll would have a 21/36, or 7/12, chance of at least a partial success. That's a bit over 50%. However, in PbtA games, you add the relevant stat to your roll, which can make a significant difference. In most PbtA games, your stats are rated between -1 and +3, and as antiochcow said, there's usually something else that can add a further +1 or so to your roll. It can vary from game to game, as Powered by the Apocalypse is a broader category than it used to be, but this holds true in general.
You're missing something, 2-6 is not complete failure, it is the GM makes a move. This can be anything from the pc getting knocked over to the barbarian horde getting careless with their torches and setting the city alight or something advancing a plot behind the scenes. Mere failure is far too dull.
