This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone know of good map making software available for Mac? I am looking for dungeon, world and city building programs.

Patrick

Hexographer is pretty decent, and has the options for city and dungeon maps as well.  I haven't tried it on a Mac, so make sure to give the free version a spin to try it out.

I wasn't able to run it on my mac for some reason.

I've just had a look at it and had it running. Describe the process you went through.
I play these games to be entertained... I don't want to see games about rape, sodomy and drug addiction... I can get all that at home.

It was some time ago, but I believe i tried to download the free version, and wouldn't even open. Have a macbook air if that matters.

If I can manage to get hexographer up and running, can you use it for commercial purposes (i basically want to start making some of my own maps for publishing).

Same here! Just downloading the most recent version to see how I got it running. I will go through point by point.

1 - Download hexographer-pb.jar.

2 - Find the file (probably ~/Downloads). Right click file and choose "open".

3 - Yes, open the damn thing please dialogue box....

4 - It asks how much memory I want to use.

5 - I choose 1gb, it now asks for serial. I press cancel.

6 - "Enjoy the free version" message. Press okay.

7 - Hexographer arrives, generate map etc etc.

Yeah, try that. It seems to work.

try here for other question: publishing maps

The filename (jar) indicates it's a Java program. Apple stopped including a Java runtime with the MacOS two or three years ago, I believe.

So, to run the jar program, you need to first go to the java.com website and install the latest version of Java.

(This is just a guess, mind, you might need to consult someone more knowledgeable than I.)

I think that hexographer is good enough in such a case and should resolve related issues easily. My own experience proved that.
