This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Maztica, the re-working

Astrology & You

Astrology comes up with each imbue attempt. However Astrology is a class NWP (Priest & Wizard), and costly one at that at 2 NWPs. It costs even more to get outside of class, and since 'Weavers and 'Knights are Rogue and Warrior archetype respectively, they are looking at 3 NWPs.

This leaves Priest archetype classes with another skill besides spells to trade for imbuing items. Given their deity temple/shrine restriction, inability to make art, and lack of dance or rapid occult knowledge, they often find cause to work with 'Knigts and 'Weavers. One of their trades is astrology knowledge through consultation or... calendars!

Calendars
Calendars are accordion codices of different sizes and elaboration, painted with Maztican symbol writing, deity artwork, and astrological charts. They provide a variety of uses, from agriculture and natal charts, to auspicious moments and predictions. More importantly from a gaming standpoint they provide a player service of turning OOC knowledge about the Stars and Imbuing Items into IC knowledge without the need of a professional astrologer PC or NPC nearby.

So, depending on your campaign, you can sell different sized astrological codices to the public.

Maybe you have a professional Astrologer and he wants to read Astrology for years into the campaign. He may ante up for one of the largest and most expensive codex available. Thus he can flexibly answer complex questions as they arise. And this remains viable as long as he can observe the stars and occasionally visit observatories for verifying calibration.

Or perhaps like most adventuring players you may want to sell smaller, quick-reference, calendar parcels. Such as someone selling a monthly calendar about who will be the most favored gods (+30%) for the next month. Or maybe a priest specializes in selling the month cycle info of only their one god and their favorability.

And you can alter the calendar value in other ways. The immediate obvious one is size, by adding more months. Or perhaps you sell more complexity into works, such as one that covers the top Pluma and Hishna god for each day of a month. Or ones that cover the 1st 2nd and 3rd most star favored, or maybe even a whole Pluma or Hishna faction of gods.
=====================

The trade potential between the three classes is deliberately large, as they each provide elements that may be difficult for another. The cosmology comes as a cultural package that feeds off itself through cooperation. This leaves reason that Mazticans would rather coalesce versus a mutual, external threat, and if brought elsewhere will attempt to recreate cultural patterns from home.

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

Why, oh why!, did feathered headdresses fall out of favor from daily wear? Sure they may not be convenient in the subway, but look at that height! Oh well, back to being pragmatically creative.

I need ideas for Maztican imbued artwork, y'know, new magic items and the spells attached. Masterwork stuff is an obvious choice. However, lower stakes, more minor Maztican spells would be more helpful. Like, a good reason to summon a flock of birds to make a feathered artwork, yet everyday pragmatic, too.

Perhaps I am seeking the equivalent of sensibly insoled, but stylish, modern business shoes. The Easy Spirit pumps or Rockports of Maztica if you will. Thoughts?
