This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[EON] Weapons

I'm looking for some ideas for weapons (usable for publication) for a Space Opera-Horror game.

Here are some of the specifications:

I'm mostly wanting believable high tech stuff.

It's not hard for the "rebels" to get tech in space opera style universe within reason, but I want that to be something they have to think about when they loadout for a skirmish or consecration. "What do I take now?" becomes important because they face "demons."

Demons who in essence have invaded human space, and both fight a frontline war, and who have claimed a large number of worlds by infiltration, direct conquest, and so on.

The reason they are "rebels" is no one will admit the war is against demons, or even really call it a war/invasion. So only a small number of people are taking up the necessary fight, often in direct conflict with the powers that be over things.

The demons have a lot of different names depending on the people you talk two--officially they're classed as aliens.

Tthose that suspect more but don't want to be thought of as insane call them stigmatim as they come from a whole in space called the Eschaton Stigmata that is described as a 'raw bloody wound " or a visceral seeping sore in space-time.

Those that are more literal call them Neodemons and the Eschaton Stigmata called the Hellbleed.

These things aren't aliens, in the truest sense--they're human nightmares, and end of time apocalypse demons. Things that will rip of your skin eat your body and bones and wear the skin as you to wreck lives. Demons like Devourers (Biophages) that look like a humanoid torso perched atop maggot colored lamprey limbs that feast on life itself, and will send the bodies of the dead out to find it more food. (Zombies)

Though the neodemons come in more familiar forms too--malevolent ghosts haunting derelict ships, vampire soldiers that claim entire colonies for food (old school supernatural vampires without the Victorian/Byronic sexualization aspects)

In short monsters of peoples worst nightmares, made real and conquering humanity in a million myriad ways. Tempters, corruptions, punishers, feasters, and so on.

The Technology is anywhere from 100 to 200 years more avanced than now, with pockets droppng to maybe 50 and small high end research that maybe pushing 300 years more advanced.

#1
Personal coilguns, personal flechette weapons, laser rifles (Check the latest weapons research; it's probable)...

...Radiation gun. Get some sort of high-rad material, focus the rads down the barrel, point and click and the target gets hit with enough that they're dying. And no gunfire sound.

Sonic stunners. Sonic grenades. Including ones capable of killing.

Lasers and bright lights powerful enough to potentially melt eyes.

"Heat rays" - Focused Microwave guns. Extremely messy, but quickly deadly.

Nano-poisons. Adaptive nano-poisons.

Hyper-velocity missiles. Missiles that go so fast, they don't need a warhead. And, turning them into shrapnel with point-defense is an exceedingly bad idea.

Rocket pistols, rifles and other hand-held weapons.

Vibro-blades. Sonic blades - Focus sound emitters till they literally cut/burst everything X inches in front and are nothing but a hum everywhere else. Bonus? Will penetrate human flesh and most armour.

Hyper-acids.
The main problem with government is the difficulty of pressing charges against its directors.

Given a choice of two out of three M&Ms, the human brain subconsciously tries to justify the two M&Ms chosen as being superior to the M&M not chosen.

Is EON going to be blended into Derelict Delvers?   It sounds like a cool DD supplement /alt setting / optional goodies.

No it uses a bit "newer school" system designed for optimal ease of use--instead of somewhat old school inspired. Plus cool things like the Fear Spiral don't work as well for the HP system.

Well theres lots of nifty future type weapons that would be useful in a future tech game. Gyro-jet, plasma, laser, maser, partiocle beam, slug throwers, and tasers.

Plasma is an energy/matter type that can be defintied and used in different ways. Lasers are of course the classic ray gun of the future, but newer developments such as the maser which is a laser using microwaves instead of the visible light spectrum is an interesting alternative. In that its even nastier than a standard laser. Particle beams in real life have radiation issues that could help or hinder the firer in real life. Tasers can be the equivilant of a lightning gun as it can use a laser to ionize a path through the air that a bolt of electricity can follow. But over all I think that gyro-jets and slug throwers are the most versatile. Projectiles can be in their simplist forms hollow points, armor piercers, or or what not. But they can be all kinds of things. They can contain silver, peices of the true cross, holy water, relics like the pinkie of st. who the hell ever. Or they can be high tech like depleted uranium discarding sabot fin stabilized armor peircing. Or they can be explosive, acid containing, or once again what the hell ever. Gyro-jets are really tiny rockets. So they gain velocity out to a specific point. Then tend to taper off in velocity and trajectory. While a standard bullet loses velocity/trajectory the minute it leaves the barrel.
Just some food for thought.

Thanks. I'm familiar with tons of SF weapons, but finding a clean way to to make a horror game with SF weapons is tough. It's doable (as you see Dead Space managed it.)

One way is to not have mundane weapons be fully effective. A sort of "Why won't it die?!?!" kind of thing.

Well if you want to make the game feel more like a horro than a shoot'em up I suggest being more inventive with the wepaons.
By this I mean that if the Demons are in effect human nightmares made real I would look to include some 'Psychic' weapons. So a set of weapons that tap into some essecne of the human psyche and use it to disrupt the energy fields that hold the demons together.

So with that in mind .

Psychotropic Emmitter Cannon - Counterweighted long gun (looks like the counterballanced cannons used in Aliens) that focuses human psychic energy into a powered pulse. The pulse will remder the psychic feied that maintains HellBred consistency in this plane in oberable litterally tearing the creatures apart. The side effect of use is the psychotropic effect on the user as contunual use usually ends up in extreme behaviour as the dominant emotion state of the subject feeds the emitter and this in turn saps other emotions (you woudl use this effect as the 'ammo' of the wepon system and you could link prolonged use in game to any photiba/psychosis mechanics you hve in play)

Empathy Frame - the Empathy Frame is an upper body exoskelton that enables the bearer to focus their emotional force on a demonic target. The frame itself is basically a support for the empathy collector that plugs into the users hypothalamus and uses it to power the wepon which appears much like a large calibre blaster pistol. The weapon focuses human emotion onto the demonic subject and overrides their own emotional matrix causing genuine physical damage. The effect on the user is to deaden their emotions dso the Frame is often refered to as a "Drone Cone" or "Sapper". Users often develop reliance on drugs and/or extreme behavious in order to capture something of that human emotion they have lost.

Just an idea may be way off base with these but hey I only had 10 minutes so :)
