This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hey, all. I'm looking for playtesters for the new edition of my samurai game, Kaigaku. This version is based on Stars Without Number and has many more customization options. You can find all of the necessary files at www.reddit.com/r/KaigakuRPG. I'm in the process of writing up the NPC bestiary and some Secret Techniques for characters. This version is going to be prettier, too. Upgrading to a dramatic, mostly black and white style.

Anyway, I'd love to hear what you have to say!

So what makes this different from say the new Legend of the five rings?

More historical?

And unlike the former - do you have more 'guidelines/tips' for starting up and conducting a feudal japan campaign? For those of Us who think the genre is coll - but have no F-'n clue how to get a campaign off the ground.

Huh, sorry to take so long to get back to you. I never got the notification that you responded.

Yes, it is more historically grounded than L5R, though it takes place on a different planet and has fantasy and some sci-fi/steampunk elements. There are actual gaijin present in the system. There are going to be a lot of GM stuff. This game is basically set in the latter half of the Sengoku Era. Ther are eight major clans listed, but you can create your own, or play as a lesser clan. dozens or hundreds of clans, depending on what you want to do.

You don't have to focus on the katana like in L5R. You're free to basically mix and match techniques to create your own school. In L5R if you were a ninja you had to choose between being one who's good at playing dress-up, and one who's good at the acrobatic killy stuff. Now you get to be both.

You aren't restricted to playing members of the samurai class, and there's no penalty for being a ronin. IN fact, ronin get more flexibility. Oh, and guns and grenades.
