This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

In 2 weeks the g/f and me are to start our second game of James bond 007, using the official adventure A View to a Kill. We've had a first game that ended like 2 weeks ago, using an adventure I wrote by the name of Operation Icebreaker.

If you want to know more about the James Bond 007 RPG look here or here.

I'll put here an AP of the game, as we are playing it. My g/f and I play when the fancy strikes us, but we try to play one game a week. We usually play for 3 hours, give or take.

We chose 007 because is perfect for 1 on 1 gaming. She rolled a 00 PC, that got the codenumber 002. Being the 80s fan that she is, my g/f decided on the name of... Cindy Lauper. Yep, there you have it: Cindy Lauper, 002 agent,... with license to kill!

I'll post more about this soon.
My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

I was just reminiscing with an old friend about playing this back in the day, just him and me. It's ideal for one-on-one, in fact it's more appropriate to the genre than group play.

Well, more on the subject.

My g/f enjoyed a lot the chargen rules, and found them quite in genre. Luckily for her, she managed to roll a 00 without scars, and set to her first game some days later.

The mission (Operation Icebreaker) is a straightforward one: The year is 1984 and she was doing some survival exercises in Finland, when she happened upon the corpse of a man who had been shot in the head. After that, 002 is chasen by some unidentified mooks on skis (they're nazis), and a plane. She managed to escape them, and she had a briefing in London where M informed her that she were to take part in a joint mission with the Mossad, the CIA... and the KGB, in order to stop a group of nazi terrorists who had stolen some weapons from USSR arsenals, including nuclear weapons that could be used on an RPG7V. She had a predecessor in that mission, 008, that was murdered in Helsinki.

Long story short: a top level conference is going to be held between the heads of the most important secret services of the world (CIA, MI6, KGB...) The meeting will be held on the island of Santorini. The evil Konrad Von Glöda (chief of the nazis) wants to detonate the nuke on the meeting in order to create a huge amount of chaos between the superpowers, raising the unrest level and creating favourbale conditions to a political Nazi rising. The joint operation is a farce with the goal of capturing a British agent, so the traitor working for Von Glöda in the KGB may be able to get a promotion and cover his tracks.

002 travelled to Helsinki, Madeira, and back to Finland, in the Polar Artic, in order to follow the trail of the stolen weapons. After a frenetic flight she managed to destroy the Ice Palace (the soopersekritt Nazi base in the Artic), and follow Von Glöda to Santorini, where she was able to find the bomb and defuse it... when only 002 seconds remained :D (she had 3 chances of making the Demolitions roll and managed a success at the last). Truly frightening!!

Now we're gearing up to play A View to a Kill. I intend to keep you posted.

OK, first things first: this is the pic that my g/f chose for 002, Cyndi Lauper:

Isn't she the coolest? Now, with the AP

We start our game on Monday 1st of April, 1985. 002 is summoned to a briefing in M's office, where she is informed that 001 has disappeared and possibly died in USSR territory while carrying an important mission. 002 is to infiltrate in Siberia, locate 001 and bring him back along an important microchip that the KGB stole from a British company: Zorin Microelectronics. The chip is resistant to EMP (electromagnetic pulse), making it very valuable in case of a nuclear war.

The look on my g/f's face was priceless. What? You want me to go to the USSR to rescue this guy? But a 00 agent must do what a 00 must do.
After a brief scene in Q branch, where she got some stuff (nothing specially weird), we cut to the jump over Russian space.

My g/f decided in which zone she would start the search, as the module brings a map of the area as a player's handout. She used superbly the information given at the briefing, and was set on the right course, so I decided to spice things a bit. The KGB was in pursuit of 001, so a search group of them was near (an helicopter and 2 snowbikes). Luckily, my g/f rolled spectacularly well in her Perception rolls, so she detected the KGB guys before she was detected. And she started shadowing the helicopter, in hopes of it bringing her to 001.

Actually, 001 was dead. While trying to cross an ice bridge over a frozen river, he had an accident and broke his ankle. The snowbike fell down to the river, and he was unable to move, so he died from frostbite. I know, it sucks for a 00 agent. Anyway, while the corpse was semicovered by ice due to exposition to the weather, the bike was clearly visible. So, the KGB heli detected the bike and turned bacj to rejoin the group and inform them. And 002 decided to use that time to search for 001.

As she had declared that he jumped from the plane and landed on the east side of the river, and the only way to get down to the river was from the west (the east side was very steep, and was impossible to go down it using the snow bike), she had to cross the ice bridge to get to the west side and be able to go down and search the snowbike for clues about 001. That was a lucky thing, as she managed to discover 001's body, roll a Success Category of 1 using Hero Points, and find in a minute the microchip that 001 had hid on a medallion. That was the moment that the LGB guys chose to come back, and a fierce chase ensued.

Here the game got a little slower, as we have not played it for some weeks, and our rules knowledge is a bit rusty. The chase was quite thrilling, nonetheless, but I'd like to reread the rules before next game, so everything goes more fluidly. Anyway, we got a great time, as she quickly got the bidding system for chases, and obliged ruthlessly the KGB agents to take their vehicles beyond their possibilities, disabling the snowbikes in accidents. She also managed to shot the helicopter pilot unconscious, so the heli crashed on the ice bridge, preventing the russians from crossing to the west side of the river, and allowing her to escape. Over the chase escene she spent a lot of Hero Points, so she was a bit worried near the end, but 002 did well.

After that, she managed to avoid any other patrols, and got in time to the rendezvous point with a minisubmarine that took her to the UK. Here finishes the first part of the campaign, so we decided to call it a night.

Overall, it was a good game, if only a bit combat - heavy. She was cool with that (the movie has plenty of other, more social situations), so everything's fine. I still feel a lack of agility with rules, but is just for this moment. We're hoping to be able to play next week, but holiday schedules will make that hard.

Thanks for the kind words.

I've never read a Bond novel, so you could be right :) I got the idea of the adventure from an adventure of the same name that I read on a Spanish RPG magazine, but the adventure was quite shitty. The author could have been inspired by it, of course.

And I'll post more as soon we got our next game :) Oh, and btw, it's quite probable that she and I got some WoD action on holidays. I'll post more as I know of it.
