Sheesh! According to Mr. Analytical, as a game designer my reading list should be limited to "Pratchett, Games Workshop novels, and manga," plus other RPGs - to steal ideas from. Now I'm going to have to dump my library and build a new one. Anyone up for a book burning? That should show proper cultural insularity! Consign thee to the fires, Kipling! Avaunt thee, Niven! You're toast, McCullogh!

Yeah, I think it was Delirium said that. She or he is coming across as much more of a prima donna than Mr. A., though Mr. A. doesn't disagree with Delirium's points.

Anyway, Clash, the sad thing is, you're not on their radar. (Well, you ought to be on Mr. A's.)

Also, I get their point but I just don't care.

I would suck too...suck also?...I guess I would loose my Niven, Asimov, Clarke, Tolkein and probably 90% of my game library. The thing that gets me is the whole "Do something Original and they will flock to you" vibe. That really does not work in the game, nay the commercial enterprise. ;)

Yawn.  More "Gamers are all stupid, except me" bullshit.

You've misread Dilerium's and Mr. A's statements.  It isn't that that should be the sole reading list of game designers.  The accusation is that it already IS their sole reading list, and therefore they are all ignorant, uncreative rejects.

It's a lot of made up puffery to make someone feel better about all the time they spend cavorting with the unwashed masses.

I stopped posting in Open long before I got banned, and that kind of crap had everything to do with it.
