This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ask Me About Heaven's Shadow.

Hey folks!

As you may've seen, I'm working on another game as part of National Game Development Month, and another IndieGoGo project to match.

It's called Heaven's Shadow, and it's a game of faith and assassination.

The players are "Shadows," trained and experienced assassins and operatives in service to a religious Agency, and tasked with the Watch, the eternal hunt for the Nephilim, half-demons who hide as men and sow evil and discord and sin within society.

The system is based directly on OpenD6, particularly the Mini Six variant from AntiPaladin games, fleshed out and customized with added material and rules to cover the subject matter of modern espionage and wetworks.

Chief inspirations are the original Assassin's Creed, and the television series Burn Notice, as well as apocryphal Judeochristian lore such as the books of Enoch, Jubilees, and Judith.

I am still mid-development, but I feel I'm getting far enough along to start opening the floor to questions in the interest of getting the word out about what it is, and why you might want to pitch in to see where it goes.

Ask away!

Sounds like a good setting. Enemies that plot and cause trouble interest me more than enemies that just tear your head off.

This was definitely a goal.

I see Nephilim's role as the ultimate agents of sin in the world, demons who have the benefit of being able to act in the world in the flesh.

They are crime lords, politicians, warmongers, flesh merchants, cult leaders, and worse.  They're not all the worst criminals and psychopaths in the world of course, no silly "Hitler was a Nephilim!" type stuff here, they're generally subtler and more insidious and avoid the limelight so they can keep working their evils in the world.  These are immortal beings thousands of years old, and you don't live that long without learning some subtlety.

Each Nephilim chooses a particular path of sin to specialize in, and makes it their job on the earth to commit, spread and encourage that sin as much as possible.  They work their way into whatever positions of power they can find that let them do so, from government to business to organized crime.  They're not so much a global conspiracy; though they do nominally all serve the Adversary in Hell, they each have their own agendas that don't always align, though groups of them, especially in the same or complimentary trades, can and do cooperate when it suits them.

Their true form, and the arcane powers they can manifest, reflect their chosen focus, and each thus has a handful of supernatural abilities that make them a bit more of a challenge than a regular mortal target.

In short, they're very evil things, and the world is far better off without them.  Now, their mortal servants, that gets stickier, and different Agencies are likely to have different doctrines on how to handle the regular humans who get swept up in their evil ...
