This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ok, my latest update on Ferals is downloadable from Mediafire here:

http://www.mediafire.com/view/w4svjowd95v7k11/Ferals_pb_0.7.pdf

However, someone told me that it even was viewable directly, and didn't need download ...
I haven't checked up if that is true, and i'm not even certain it works on all computers anyway, so i have no idea.
(I couldn't look at it, but then, the site always wants me to use a ... upgraded browser ... when i log in.)

Anyway, it is free, and in pdf-format, 259 KB.

Minor info:
I derived the core rules from the White Wolf Storytelling system, and as rules it is designed to be fast and at least fairly easy.

I know it lacks currently in several areas(why do you think i call it 0.7?), but do point out those areas to me if/when you find them.

I'm still stupid enough to think my system is the best system there is, objectively .... but i'm not sure if it is my modesty or intelligence that fails me there.
:hmm:
Perhaps it is both.

Anyway, i often feel as if it may be just as well to give up on the game anyway, unless i get response on it.
I mean, why should i make this game, when there are so many other games out there?
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.
;)

Bloody Stupid Johnson

Hey I get a mention!..

Checked and its viewable as-is. Had a read through. Formatting is nice, it could use someone with native English to go through and check some of the grammar in places (i.e. "ferals are" rather than "ferals is", or "Magic exists".)

Difference between magics-based and genetics-based is in the sidebar, could use more explanation (that this is how the feral is created, with magic or in the lab) in chargen section?

Skills look like they're a bit abuseable, I could see lots of people just putting a 7 in Brawl.

Otherwise doesn't seem a bad system. Very compact.

Thank you :D
Of course you've gotten a mention, of all people on this site, you have normally been the first to respond on threads like these from me, and you also have those essay-like collections of info on rules in rpgs in general. :)

I think i used to use "are" in plural, but after being corrected on a few things and getting insecure, i went back to "I am, you are, he/she/it is" ....
But i agree, it may be a good idea to let someone else see over the grammar.

Hm ... perhaps i should write out the actual difference between genetics and magic in the chargen ...
I have at least divided between Origin: Type(human/animal/hybrid) and Origin: Source(Genetics/Magic) since then, so the difference between those two are clearer.
However, i can't change that in the 0.7 pdf, but when/if i make further uploads, that change may be in there.

I know, it is abuseable, but i though "If someone wants to play a Martial Arts Master that started training as young, then Let them" and similar.
I had not any very good way of tempering or restricting abuse at the time i wrote it, without also hitting too hard on the idea i was having for the game.
Nowadays i'm starting to think that an element of randomness may be added (similar to Palladium books' origin-based random skill packages in HU & TMNT).

Again, thank you, the point is to let it remain as compact as possible, without making it too thick.
It is also an attempt to get back to basics (small rulebooks) while at the same time making something that can be played RAW if need be.
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.

Looks interesting but... ow! Minorly inspired by Furcadia? Just... no... really... no.

aheh, sorry. Ancient problem with that place.

Rules look more or less ok. Few major syntax goofs really. Overall just one or two minor things that do not detract overall. The sidebars could perhaps be moved to the main text. Not a must. but easier to read.

From the little background so far. Looks like a mix of Furc and Shadowrun. Replacing elves and orcs with ferals.

Small suggestion. Stick to calling them ferals. Do not refer to them as Furrys. Only see it once I believe. But that is one too many.

Observation: There seems no reason to play a human when the ferals have all the advantages in chargen. They need something to balance out. Might want to consider moving humans to NPC race status at that point if humans are not getting any real balance.

Really, i started on Ferals way before i encountered Furcadia, if that is any consolation, it is just easy to use Furcadia as a comparison, and people on there has been really helpful in helping me on my work on it ...

Perhaps you just met the wrong kind of people there ... well, that's not really my buisness here to ponder about that ;)

Syntax goofs? Ok, would you like to point them out to me?

You are correct about the Furcadia/Shadowrun mix, but it is more like TMNT/Shadowrun, really :)

Really good observation.
The game is focussed on Ferals, really, so i did not notice that "pure humans" wasn't represented in the origin variants at all.
I can "balance" it for "pure humans", but removing them from the playable options entirely is also a good idea, in order to keep with the focus of the game.

(Interesting, noone has pointed out the lack in the alleged "miniature rules" that is referred to in the rules, yet.... )
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.

Not many or major. I'll have to re-read and see what jumps out.

Essentially you are doing Furry Outlaws/Pirates but instead Feral (Furry) Cyberpunk. IE: No humans. And no. I didnt like the titles of FO & FP.

Bemusingly I have an old un-used calendar submission transposing Red Shetland characters into Shadowrun. heh-heh.

Haven't heard of FP or FO ... but, i'm not really up to date on all that may be accessible through the 'net ...

Red Shetlands?

I'm looking forward to seeing what you find, so i may fixit.

1: Two anthro themed RPGs from the 90s. The first was Robin Hood themed. England, outlaws, all historical figures of the era converted into animal people. The second moved forwards to the high seas era of Piracy and the first colonization of the New World, also with historical figures converted to beast folk. I was one of the playtesters for Furry Pirates.

2: Fantasy parody comic from the late 80s to mid 90s. Howards Coman and Red Sonja replaced with horse people. Originally played as a parody, then shifted to a straight up low fantasy setting. I did the RPG for that way back. Lots of fun while it lasted.

3: When time allows yes.

Well, my game is still leaning towards having humans as the (seeming)dominant species, so no feralizing of historical figures.

I assume you mean Marvel comics' version of Red Sonja (The original was more in Solomon Kane's era, than in Conans, from what i have been told :) )

As said, looking forward to it.
