Title: [Hearts & Souls] 2E Prototype PC Sheet
Post by: Silverlion on March 30, 2010, 07:21:16 AM
I'd like some feedback on this character sheet.

I'm waiting on High Valor's fixes, and  more Derelict Delvers playtesting so I just poked around a bit.

The blue used to fill the word "Souls" feels a little dark to me - it does not evoke 'four-color hero' to me.  Purely a cosmetic thing, but something I would choose to tinker with.

The bit with "Real Name" feels hidden and its placement looks like it should have something to do with the portrait, which (and I could be wrong) is not what you want.  I might either shrink the portrait box or simply put Real Name under Heroic Identity.

The BIFF! and BAM! watermarks are a good idea, but they look like an afterthought or nudged out of the way.  I think I would increase the opacity and make them bigger and/or more central.  As long as they are almost transparent, they aren't going to get in the way of anything.

I almost feel like Connections should be kept with the rest of the character info.  I know very little about your system, but based on comments I gather that the Wheel of Doom is a game mechanic, so it feels weird that it should break up the flow of character info.

And as for the wheel, the different color scheme really makes it stick out - could be a good or a bad thing.  I think I'd have to print this out and use it to know if it truly is an eye sore.  For what its worth, I think the color scheme has a good "Villain" vibe.  I wonder if your game has a nemesis or arch-enemy mechanic?  If it does, I would include a space for it there if you keep the color scheme as is.  If you moved connections up as well, you'd have the char sheet nicely divided between "Heroic" things and "Conflict" things.

Oh, and I would play around with your margins a bit.  The top looks a bit crammed.  I'd also consider a border or, better yet, divide the major sections up into panes to look like a comic book.

Thank you for the feedback! Funny enough the superhero action words were the first things on the PC sheet, but I didn't want them getting in the way of anything. I can tinker with it to fix most of the problems. I do think I need to make drive more visible since it is important. Maybe move it above the stress trigger.

Panels is a good idea, I wanted to suggest them without them getting in the way. We'll see what I can do. oooh. I can also make "Editorial" comment boxes listing the sections like "Capablities" "Stress" and "Portrait.

I think it's sweet.  I really like the effect you achieved with the panel/drop shadow (the boxes that say Portrait and Stress Box).  I think you could only benefit by mimicking that effect for the other boxes.  Not sure if you changed the blue text color, but I like it a lot more now.

The header looks a little compressed.  I know I mentioned it was too big before, but only insofar as it butted up against your margin.  I'd retain your margin and stretch your logo on the vertical.

Your BAM, POW! still look sort of meek on the sheet, like you really don't want them to get in the way.  And I can appreciate that.  But I would make them bigger and up the transparency.

The attributes look really squeezed together.  In play, I would want my stats big and bold, maybe inside a symbol even.  Presently, I'd have to sharpen my pencil just to write them all in on the right line.

Once again, well done, especially on the panel effect.  When can I play? :)

I'm working on it. Setting is coming now, some slightly modified rules. (Mostly to make stress flow more, and the effects to be better explained, and more easily recovered from, rather than the other way around.

Here is a new attempt. Slightly tweaked.

I like it. Can't really give you more than that, since my art skill is low.

Thanks clash. I'm trying to work on the imagery as well as the games rules and mechanics. I think I'm getting it. Just need to add more skills to my personal character sheet.
