This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It's been a busy month for your's truly with my marriage to my one and only on the 7th, then the much needed week off for honeymoon and now back hard at work to catch up and keep the art flowing! Whew!

Harsh

Congratulations!

Ah, rates...there. Ouch. Sadly my budget for the next few months is completely blown due to dentistry, I love your work, but it will have to be some future project.

More great work, Harsh. Love the top one, really emotive that. Has a certain movement and energy to it.

Harsh

Hey all,
Just wanted to update and show some new work. I hope you like!

This is a sister piece to the previously posted:

Also, a WIP that I am loving!

Critiques are always welcome. New projects (paying) are even more welcome!
Btw, I need a Wacom tablet. Painting with a mouse has worn thin on me and it's time to upgrade. Support an artist today and help me earn my new brush!
Thanks!

Ok, so I have recently been humbled by many fellow artists and ADs online. It has been brought to my attention that painting with a mouse is insane, mind-numbing, and pretty much a waste of time since next to none of the skills I learn from that experience will translate well to using a tablet. Besides that I am watching my contemporaries run away with all the work as well as continue to grow as artists while I am slow and steady at best. This past few months since April has been great for me, but it's a snail's pace compared to what I am capable of doing.
So!
My wife and I have been trying to budget a tablet, but cannot do so. I don't see much reason for a professional artist to get a 4x6 hobby tablet like a Bamboo, so here's my thoughts.

I am looking at a 6x8 Intuos 3 for now, but here's an idea for any publisher out there. Buy me an Intuos3 9x12 and I'll contract two free covers or 4 color interiors (per your specs) to you for the trouble. Buy me a Cintiq 12wx, and I'll contract 5 covers or 10 interiors to you.

I think my work is worth it. I plan to be the next Larry Elmore or at least die trying to live up to that level of quality. Yes, I know I have a great ways to go, but I believe I can do it. What do you say?

Saphim

I think you might want to repost that proposal over on //www.rpg.net because that forum is read by a lot more publishers.
And as far as I remember a big wacom is around 800 Dollar (at least that is what my gf paid IIRC)... that might be a tad pricey for smallpress publishers.

Harsh

Thanks Saphim, I have done that already, but good advice all the same. :)

So far...crickets. I can't say I'm surprised, but I thought it was worth a shot. The Intuos3 9x12 runs around $550 and the Cintiq 12wx runs about $1000 (both prices from the Wacom site). I'm sure I could find them a bit cheaper if I keep looking, but so far the prices are pretty consistent wherever I go.

Looks like my girlfriend profited from the strong euro big time when she bought hers.
Good luck.

Harsh, check your PMs.

4C or Not 4C? The real question is why not 4C Expanded? PWYW now at DriveThruRPG

*jaw dropped* You use a mouse? Crikey!

I use a Genius tablet, it cost me about £30 and comes heartily recommended. I'm not quite good enough to make use of all the snazzy stuff you get with a Wacom.

Being a creator of a free game, I'm afraid I have no budget, otherwise, the offer sounds like a cracker! Good luck with it, mate.

Gah don't I know it. I bought a small cheap Intuous 2 off ebay. I've done coloring with a mouse and its not an easy task at all.

It's me again, Margret.
Hey all, just wanted to show off my 'practice piece' with my shiny new Wacom! :P

I couldn't be more giddy if I tried.

Anyways...here you go. Crits welcome. Commissions moreso. :)

How did you find the new Wacom? Intuitive? Easy to get used to? Did you find that you drew quicker than with a mouse? Curves easier?

Nice work, though. Not entirely keen on the stereotype subject matter but it's well executed. :)

Heh. I should have mentioned this was a Character of the Week submission over at ConceptArt.org. Really great place for artists to hang and learn new stuff from each other. The subject was a revision of Red Sonja. After letting it sit a few days, I'm thinking my revision was less than inspired. Oh well. It was a good learning experience.

As for how the tablet handles? It's the next best thing to graphite on paper for me. Now the trick is to learn to actually paint instead of draw all the time. :) It handles really well. Strokes are solid and consistent. The only faults I have at all are not with the tablet but with my aging PC. lol. What are you gonna do right?

That's great! I'm glad to hear you are enjoying it. I still am not happy with my level of coloring artwork, but I still learn tricks everyday.

Rock on with your bad art self. :D
