This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Harbek's Journal- 01/21/2011

The characters in the group are 4th level, and I believe that the NPCs are the same level as well.

Prince Yuroric Durrak survives the poison and recovers!  Once he heard that his cousin Prince Kierrek Durrak and his companions earned their Hide and killed the White Eye goblin tribe, he went out by himself and killed a wolf to earned his Hide right away.  We are invited to the Fire by Thane Harain Durrak as a celebration of Prince Yuroric's recovery and earning his Hide.  Most of the clan elders and lords are there as well.  Harbek notices Lord Rarrim Durrak watching the young princes, and it's clear that he doesn't like them.  We are at Clan Durrak's hold at Falerg Barias.  Thank Harain Durrak tasked the two princes and their companions to travel to Corenn Krag and investigate why no word has been heard from Clan Corenn lately.  Clan Corenn and Clan Durrak are allies, and there has been no communication lately.

The group traveling to Corenn Krag:

-- Prince Yuroric, dwarf (Player, Paladin|Cleric; Clan Durrak Prince)
-- Prince Kierrek, beardless dwarf (NPC, Paladin; Clan Durrak Prince)
-- Dryn Cinderspring, gnome (Player, Warlock; Clan Durrak Stonecaller)
-- Daugen Blackstone, dwarf (NPC, Rogue|Monk; Clan Durrak spy)
-- Breyan Brainsmasha', dwarf (NPC; Warlord; Clan Durrak Captain)
-- Harbek, dwarf (Drohem; Warden; Clan Durrak Captain)

(The Durrak princes are cousins.  Prince Kierrek sacrificed and offered his beard up to the dwarven deity- yes, he's an odd duck!)

After a month of traveling the tunnels of the Empire we finally reach the Bunker City, which is the hold of Clan Drakain.  Clan Drakain is a trading partner with Clan Durrak, but not officially allies.  When we arrive at the gates of the Bunker City we find a caravan of Clan Morval traders barred from entrance at the gates.  They are led by Mahkner Manglefoot the Clan Morval Caravan Master.  He is upset that the Drakain Gate Captain will not allow anyone entrance to the city.  Prince Yuroric approaches and requests entrance, but the Gate Captain respectfully denies it.  Prince Yuroric presses the matter and the Gate Captain sends word to the Drakain Thane that two Durrak princes are requesting shelter.  While they all waited for the messenger to return, the Drakain Captain had food and drink brought out to the Durrak princes and companions.  Prince Kierrek shared the refreshments with the Clan Morval caravan.  Finally, the messenger returned with word from the Drakain Thane, who respectfully denied Prince Yuroric's request for shelter.  Prince Yuroric was rightly upset, but it was clear that they would not be allowed into the Bunker City and must find shelter in the tunnels again.

The group leaves the Bunker City and travels to Corenn Krag, which was about another month of travel.  Finally, the group reaches Corenn Krag and is shocked to discover the gates open and not a living soul in the city.  The group find evidence that there was a massive battle, but there were no bodies to be found.  The group makes their way to Corenn Hall, the seat of power and Corenn Thane's home.  The doors are open and the group enters, but find no one there.  However, they do find some dead Corenn warrior bodies, and believes that they've been dead only for a couple of hours.  The group continues its exploration of Corenn Hall and is attacked by a group of Duergar!

Encounter #1 Opponents:

-- (1) Duergar Shock Trooper
-- (3) Duergar Guards
-- (4) Duergar Thugs

The group easily defeats the group of Duergar, and are deeply troubled by their presence there.  The group takes a Short Rest and presses onward to the Corenn Throne Room.  What they found there was shocking.  There was a large group of Duergar led by a Priest of Asmodeus, and a group of Clan Whurduer slavers that had a large group of Corenn women slaves.  The Whurduer were selling the slave women to the Duergar.  We surprised the meeting between them, and they say that the Durrak group must be killed so they cannot tell others about this pact between the Whurduer and Duergar clans.

Encounter #2 Players:

-- (1) Cauj Whurduer, Great Clan Whurduer noble
-- (2) Whurduer Warriors
-- (4) Whurduer Slavers
-- (4) Whurduer Thugs
-- (26) Corenn female slaves

-- (1) Duergar Priest of Asmodeus
-- (1) Duergar Theurge
-- (2) Duergar Shock Troopers
-- (2) Duergar Scouts
-- (2) Duergar Guards
-- (6) Duergar Thugs

Immediately, Cauj Whurduer flees the Throne Room and takes the Whurduer Slavers with him.  The group starts fighting the remaining Whurduer clansmen and the Duergar clansmen.  It is a deadly fight to the death since the Duergar and Whurduer want to destroy any evidence of their clandestine meeting and business.

After killing many all of the Whurduer clansmen and all the Duergar except the Priest and Theurge, the Duergar Scouts abandon the Priest and Theurge stating that they must bring word of this back to the Duergar Thane.  The Duergar Priest was surprised by this turn of events and cursed the Scouts as cowards.  The group kills the Duergar Theurge leaving only the Duergar Priest of Asmodeus alive.  He tries to flee but he is besieged by the Durrak warriors and princes.  The Priest mentally controls Prince Kierrek and forces him to kill a Corenn slave woman.  He then also mentally controls Harbek and forces him to kill a Corenn slave woman.  Finally, Prince Yuroric lands the killing blow and  kills the Duergar Cleric.  The group quickly liberates the remaining Corenn slave women.

The Corenn women tell the group that Clan Whurduer attacked suddenly and without warning as they were invited guests.  The Clan Corenn warriors fought valiantly and bravely to the last man, and all the Corenn men were killed.  The Corenn Thane and his royal family were all murdered.  The Durrak princes and clansmen stay in Corenn Hold to properly bury the Corenn Thane and his family.  After they search for anything useful, the group gathers supplies for the long trek back to Falerg Barias.  The group is bringing the Corenn women with them as witnesses to the treachery and horror of the Whurduer atrocity and pact with the Duergar.

The characters achieve 5th level.
