This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Besides the rules of the game, what information needs to be in the game master's portion of a roleplaying game book?

Spinachcat

How to run THAT game. AKA, the Conan RPG should tell you how to make your game more Conan. The Buffy RPG should tell you how to make your game more Buffy. Paranoia 1e did this very well.

Piestrio

Commonly needed tools for that game.

Generic plots, locations, characters, etc...

Tables if you need them, etc...

Stuff that's important IN-GAME

A few good examples of suitable adventures.

Etc...
Disclaimer: I attach no moral weight to the way you choose to pretend to be an elf.

Currently running: The Great Pendragon Campaign & DC Adventures - Timberline

I'll check out Paranoia, thanks!

Out of all the oldschool D&D books including OSR stuff, which one would you say has the best dungeon master advice, Piestrio?

Have you checked out the Tao of D&D site?  The guy has written a whole book on the subject, and from the excerpts I've read it seems pretty good.
