This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[FtA!] Fairy Spell List

As Sean rightfully complained that Eff-Tee-Ay-Distas don't share their stuff freely enough, I'm going to share a new spell list for my upcoming campaign. Feel free to steal it, or to steal single ideas for use in other systems.

I somehow have the feeling that something is off in my ranking (and no, it isn't Buffoon's Glue on level 8 - that's on purpose, as I wanted to tone down direct area combat spells to preserve the character of this list, even though it's an extremely tame spell for that level).

Fairy Spell List
The infamous magic of the fairy creatures, which is occasionally also known to elves, druids and children stolen and raised by fairies (known as buffoons).
Humanoid users are mostly Rogue-Wizards who focus on their Fairy magic.

Notes:
- Spell level limits are based on CHA, not INT.
- Quick-Casting check: ACT WIS + Performing: Comedy
- Spell Completion check: PAS CHA + Performing: Comedy
- Casters who know the Fairy Spell List may use the same stats to cast Illusion, Telekinesis and Travel spells

1 Practical Joke
The victim suffers from a minor mishap, like slipping out, tripping over its own feet, burping or speaking a vulgarity in a discussion, unless it resists with PAS CHA.
In combat, this can explicitly work like a stunt.

2 Buffoon's Mask
This spell changes the appearance of the victim to whatever the buffoon wants, as long as it is between the size of a cat and that of a horse. The spell covers all five senses, although it doesn't convey any powers or stat changes. (So a petite sorceress changed to a bulking ogre is yet weak, and an ogre changed to a sorceress doesn't gain access to any spells.)
The spell isn't precise enough to copy the exact change of individuals, although clearly recognizable caricatures are possible.
This spell can also be cast on items and on the buffoon himself. It lasts for 10min/lvl.

3 Summon Fairy
This spell contacts a goblin, sprite or another fairy creature of no more HD than the caster's level (GM's discretion). The buffoon may attempt to make bargains with the creature, but it will always do its best to twist the deal and to cause mischief.

4 Goblin Door
The spell creates a sparkling portal on a wall or door. Everyone stepping through it appears on the other side of the barrier. The portal remains for 1 round/level. No one can stay inside the portal – he's automatically transported to the other side immediately.
The portal is an one-way affair, although the buffoon may re-cast the spell from the other side to return.

There's a more powerful version that allows to create more permanent doors and to teleport to every location the caster knows (including other planes), but this ability is only known to a few powerful fairies and it tends to have nasty side-effects (roll on OSRIC's Tricks: Attributes table (p.156) for inspiration).

5 Fairy Strike
This spell destroys all inanimate matter in a 5' by 5' square, or only some of it as the buffoon chooses.
It can't damage stuff that's reinforced to resist damage and magical stuff, although non-enforced wooden doors, ropes, mundane containers of magical potions and improvised weapons and armours are explicitly all fair game.
The spell can also be targeted at parts of an item, like the rope of a rope bridge or the straps of a dress.
Alternatively, the spell can make the matter vanish to a fairy realm, from which it returns after 3d6 minutes.

6 Fairy Mark
This spells marks a creature with an invisible mark that is only visible to Fairy creatures and users of the Fairy spell list (though it can be detected by means to detect magic).

This allows to encode short messages for Fairy people, of up to (caster level) words. The main purpose, though, is to enhances the power of fairy spells cast against the victim:
- +5 to cast and quick-cast fairy spells against the victim
- extends spell duration by factor 1d6*1d6 (not for instant or permanent spells like Practical Joke or Fairy Touch)
- the original marker can once per week cast a fairy spell at the victim over any distance (or its direct environment in the case of Summon Fairy, Fairy Strike and Buffoon's Glue)

A fairy mark lasts 1d6*1d6 (d6) 1.) hours, 2.) days, 3-4.) weeks, 5.) months, 6.) permanent. It can't be re-cast while still active. The original marker can't undo it by pure will, though Dispel Magic helps.

7 Dweebify
This is a beefed up version of Buffoon's Mask. While Buffoon's Mask only changes the appearance, Dweebify actually turns the victim into the intended shape and also makes them quite pathetic.

Creatures gain the following stats, replacing all of their own (including spells and weapon/armor proficiency):
HD: 1
HP: 5
Speed: 0
Combat: 1d6+0
ACT: +0
PAS: +0
Special: Base movement 10' (or less if original shape had less), -10 to resist fairy spells and stunts devised to ridicule the victim
The buffoon may give the victim up to three skills of his choice with a rank equal to the caster level. These skills tend to be either entertaining (Perform), useful (Craft: Cooking) or humbling (Chambermaid Lore).
He may also force mannerisms on the victim.

Items get turned into and act in all respects like useless junk, like rubber ropes. They explicitly can't end up as weapons, armor or magic items.

The spell lasts for 1hour/level.
Items destroyed while the spell lasts are gone for good.
Creatures killed while the spell lasts on them return to life and regain their stats within 24 hours, but with their dweebified shape and mannerisms, and with the -10 penalty above. If the buffoon invested them with skills, they have to shuffle their old skills to buy them. (If they don't have enough skill points, they loose all of their old ones and gain the invested skills permanently.) Creatures "re-born" in this way can't regain their old shape by dispelling (although new shape-changes would certainly override the Dweebify).

8 Buffoon's Glue
An area with a radius of 35' gets showered with a very sticky substance. Movement through the area requires an ACT STR check every round, and even then movement is halved. The spell lasts for 1 minute/level.
The spell may also be used to stick items and/or persons together, requiring also an ACT STR check to break the glue.

9 Fairy Touch
This spell allows to bless a person, though the effects are unforeseeable and might not be beneficial at all. This spell doesn't work at all on fairy creatures (including Elves and Fairy-Touched).

Roll 3d6, with -1 for each previous Fairy Touch:
3-4 Apply results 5-7 all at once
5 Permanent Dweebify spell with shape randomly determined on City Encounter Table, gender determined with 50/50 roll (unless shape dictates it already), mannerisms determined on NPC Personality Table, duration determined as a Fairy Mark and 1d3 invested skills of level 1d6 (chosen by GM to fit the overall result). May never be Fairy Touched again.
6 New shape! Roll on reincarnation table. If you turn into anything related to fairies, you may never be Fairy Touched again.
7 Unusual quality; determine on OSRIC Tricks: Attributes table. May never be Fairy Touched again.
8-9 Turn into Fairy-Touched; lose original racial advantages in lieu of your old ones. May never be Fairy Touched again.
10-11 Turn into Fairy-Touched, gain all changes from it in addition to your usual racial stats (see races). May never be Fairy Touched again.
12-13 Gain +1 to Perform skill
14 Gain a single Elf power (determined randomly). May never be Fairy Touched again.
15 Gain a spell of lvl 1d10 in the Fairy spell list, even if your class wouldn't be allowed regularly to gain any spells and if that spell would be of too high level for your attributes or level. May never be Fairy Touched again.
16 Gain +1 in any attribute of your choice.
17-18 Gain a level

10 Helter-Skelter!
In an area with 1.000' radius, helter-skelter ensues. Things break, people stumble, and generally everything that can go wrong will go wrong, while all attacks, spells and skill usages fumble automatically. While a lot of property damage is ensured to happen, living beings will never be harmed by this spell, and while the spell works no one can be harmed.
It can explicitly be used to create a break in a combat that might be used to flee, and whoever attacks from outside the area of effect of the spell (as with missiles or spells) is also affected by it.
The spell lasts for 1 minutes per level of the buffoon. There's no resistance against it, although certain counter spells might block it.

Great to hear :) I hope this is going to add some pizzaz to pixies and their likes.

There are also some more crunchy bits to come from my campaign prep, but as they're in German, they'll have to wait until I've compiled them for my players and done the rest of the actual campaign prep. (I've written the Fairy Spell List directly in English, as elsewhise the intermix of German prose and English rule terms and titles would have been mind-boggling.)
