Thoughts on "Dice Chain" dice? d3, d7, d14, d16, d24, d30 etc?

For a while I was using a roll under mechanic for skills but leveled them with different dice.  So you'd roll a d30 under your intelligence if you had basic knowledge of a topic, but a d20 or even d16 if you were an expert master...
Anyways I moved away from it mostly because those dice are hard to keep track of at the table.  But I still like the idea.  Has anyone used the "dice chain" dice much?
These are the ones popularized by Dungeon Crawl Classics rpg.

I love the dice chain. DCC is great obviously but I also love the way their used in usage dice from the black hack.

I haven't played DCC yet but I have those dice anyway cause I'm a bit of a dice goblin and I want to have every kind. They've come in handy for edge situations where I've needed to pick randomly between an odd number of things, or give a d5 to a player when their d8 longsword gets damaged, and now they have to roll with the weird ugly die.

Got the chain for DCC ages ago and haven't looked back since. Especially since my first DCC roll was for some random encounter on a d50 and I managed to roll a 1... almost got TPKd by what showed up. Fun times.

But yeah, I've been using the full chain as a GM extensively... weird homebrew mechanics, random tables, it's all good.
