This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Which of these two options do you prefer, or is there something that just needs to be changed for both?

Option 1: More casual, like a journal entry from an explorer

Option 2: More traditional
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

I like the minotaur in the bottom left and the text from #1, with everything else as it is in #2.

#1 bit of a mess, has to be #2 for me

#1 looks nice enough -- but not for a reference to be used in play. Definitely #2 is better for RPG reference material.

Yeah, I think that pretty much sums up the problem with #1.  I like the journal aspect of it, but with an RPG, there simply too much data needed on the page to make it not look cluttered and cramped.

I like both. I think I'd prefer number 2 though in a game book I had to reference a lot.

Seconding this... I like #1 but maybe minus the stat blocks as a player guide entry or something?

So maybe just have flavor text and image on the main page, so players can see, and do something like the AD&D DMG with an index in the back with all the stats?

That way the GM can quickly see relevant stats for all monsters without having to page through 100 pages, and players can see the picture and flavor text without being privy to the statblock?

As is, I would say #2.

But if you want #1 to be a journal entry in style, you need a different page background, and I would avoid it being too yellowish, or parchment like.
Also, ditch the sidebar header and come up with a different way to head the entry.

I like the journal entry style better, in theory, but not in this execution, so I would go with #2.
Shut up and roll the dice.
