This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Encounter Critical

I've read through EC and find a lot to love. Will be running my first game this Saturday, so at that point I'll have a better understanding of EC and how it plays. Although, the game designer/writer in me already wants to add a couple new races, classes, mutations, etc. Or use EC as inspiration to start again from the ground up... but perhaps that's a fool's errand.

Does anyone play EC as its written? Anyone feel the need to tweak it, hack it, or create their own silly, gonzo, scifi-fantasy mashup using a different set of rules? Is EC's system perfect for what it is or can/should it be improved upon?

If there's an existing thread about what I'm talking about, please reply with a link. Thanks.

Encounter Critical was OSR before the OSR.

It's definitely one of those "best games I've never run."

If you do run it, I'd love to see an AP report!

You got it.  I've got a lot of ideas in my head about converting it into an easier system, but don't know if elegant game mechanics would actually make it less enjoyable.  Won't know until I actually run it.

p.s.  Speaking of best games I've never run, there's probably a thread about that, too, but... Jorune?
