This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Done being Indie. Need a new term.

Not entierly sure what you are going for...

"Shared World Designer?"

"Colaborative Game Designer?"

"Creative Commons Designer?"

Or am I not even close?

Collaborative is close?  Ish?

Indie puts the emphasis on "Absolute control by Author".  It's a reaction to the idea of selling your rights away (among other things).

I'm not reacting to the idea of losing my rights.  I'm engaged in the action of sharing them.  With everyone.

Others are engaged in such an action, too.  Doesn't matter whether that's "you can redistribute!" or "you can edit!" or "you can re-use!".

Hinterwelt's free (but copyright) rules would be in the category I'm thinking of.  So would the d20 SRD.

Nicely accurate.  Seems un-catchy, to my ears, though, and I'd like to be able to make noise with it.

I've said a couple of times that I don't want an independent revolution; what I want is a mutual liberation.  Which is why I was tending towards "mutual".  But that's kind of un-catchy, too, y'know?

Quote from: Levi Kornelsen;259484Er, but it's not all that central to where I'm going.  Yes, I write games, and use my stuff openly.  I also write articles on gaming and about ways to tinker with games - and for many people, that's where the value is at.  And I'm happy to host articles and files (including games) for others.

All those things, for me, are one giant seamless brick.  More or less an  "ideology", even.

I admit to bafflement as to why you'd be grumpy.  But, uh, okay?

Levi you're a well known guy. You say interesting stuff about gaming. You say interesting stuff about gaming. And then you say more interesting stuff about gaming. I just want to see the day when Levi cuts down on saying interesting stuff and flooding forums with his games. Lots of games. Some good, some bad....whatever. So it's no more interesting talk from Levi, but people discussing his games.....like how people talk of the games of Clash & Bill. Granted, it's not a large crowd, but at least, it's about their games.

All this finding a new term, is just more talk. I'm sorry for being grumpy, but it's just that I have seen some of your work, I just think it would be cool to see more. I can get all the talk I want from gamers talking about their games. When it comes to designers, I'd rather see their work. Again, sorry for the grumpyness.

Edit: Sorry for this rude post in an otherwise lighthearted thread. My bad.

*Shrug*

No apologies needed.  I'm a blabbermouth (not news to me, and not insulting); I get how that would eventually get irritating when compared with actually producing something of value to you.

Age of Fable

Quote from: Levi Kornelsen;259454I'm tired of being "indie by default".  Indie has all these shades of meaning that have to do with an author taking total control of their stuff, as opposed to "some other hierarchy, or obligation set" having even a share of that control.

'Taking Control' is boring.  But, equally, giving control to a hierarchy of some sort smells bad to me.  I want to share with other gamers, and involve them, in the stuff I do.  I am not a rugged individualist among other rugged individualists, and do not want to be painted as if I was trying to be one or trying to posture as one.

Does "Mutual" sound good, or stupid?
