This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

#2 is definitely the one I prefer. I'd like it even better if the page background was white to off-white. This would improve both. IMHO.

OK, how about if I turn the journal style to something like this:

D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

That looks pretty good, but using a handwriting font for everything can get a little hard on the eyes.  I would either use a handwriting font that is a bit less 'handwritey' for the whole thing, or at least for the statblock.  I can dig up an example in a bit, if you want.

I was debating on whether or not keeping the statblock the souvenir font, but I wasn't sure if that would break from the journal aspect too much.  I think functionality will win out and I'll go back to it.

You could put the stat block in a callout box, to separate it from the journal entry section?

That would work, too.  Keep the game stats separate from the in-game information.

Agreed.  Good idea fellas.  Something like this (although I'll probably just get rid of the dark box and just make it an outline):

Either way would work, really.  I happen to like the grey background, it highlights the information, but it's really a matter of preference.

I think that's a marked improvement.  I like the outline idea as well, but not for just a plain white box, transparent for that nice texture look you have would be good, so it doesn't look like they're seeing some kind of holographic pop-up.

Unless that's a part of the setting as well.. the journal/gamebook as some sort of Canticles of Leibowitz or Hitchhiker's Guide, some sort of pre-Boom tech that has references.

Meh, that sounds a bit RTG/Atomic Rocket gimmicky, even to me.

The layout for #1 isn't all that bad - I really like the composition. But, you should use special fonts (particularly ones that resemble writing) sparingly. Headers and quotes, but never full-on text.
No thanks.
