This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Not gonna "NaNoWriMo?" Why not make a game instead?

The National Game Development Month.

Running concurrently to National Novel Writing Month, these folks are attempting to organize a month of game designing instead.

I am sort of participating accidentally, as I've starting writing a new game for a small crowdfunding project to go live at the start of next month, so I'll probably add my name to the rolls for shits and giggles.

Anyone else in for it?

I have a couple of card game ideas I'll be fiddling with, yeah.  One is a racing game about monsters in tiny hot rods zooming around dungeon geomorphs; the other is essentially a rummy variant themed around a line of dwarven thanes and the comical ways they died.
Wampus Country - Whimsical tales on the fantasy frontier

"Describing Erik Jensen\'s Wampus Country setting is difficult"  -- Grognardia

"Well worth reading."  -- Steve Winter

"...seriously nifty stuff..." -- Bruce Baugh

"[Erik is] the Carrot-Top of role-playing games." -- Jared Sorensen, who probably meant it as an insult, but screw that guy.

"Next con I\'m playing in Wampus."  -- Harley Stroh

I've begun writing Heaven's Shadow already, a Mini Six powered "novella game" about Agencies of faith-driven assassins hunting the ancient demonic Nephilim.

It's been pretty fun so far.  I'll have the IndieGoGo campaign up to start taking pre-orders by Halloween, hopefully.

Do they allow teams or small groups?  I am way too lazy to go read about it.  :)

It's not exactly heavy on the rules and regulations, I highly doubt anyone would mind a group effort.

That gives me four days to get a couple of folks together and get that 'public domain/open source' project up and running!

I'm pretty sure 'in development' for 20+ years really means it has been gathering dust for 19+ years.  :)

In development, Strorm, playtest has been constant.

First of all, loved the name.

Second, I can hardly scrounge the time to prep a campaign, let alone a full-on game. But if I had the time, here's what I'd like to do:

Transhuman D6 Space. Using D6 Space and Bill Coffin's Septimus as the base for something like Traveller meets Eclipse Phase, i.e. balls-out space opera with hard SF and transhuman stuff thrown in. Maybe throw in a dash of Rogue Trader so PCs can be inhuman, immortal star traders like Revelation Space's Ultras, peddling bizarre tech to a dispersed, far-flung spacefaring humanity.

Sword & Sorcery AD&D 2e. Take AD&D 2e as a base and write a sword-and-sorcery treatment of it that reads like a gritty B&W Conan pastiche S&S comic. Some classes will need major surgery or deletion (Ranger, Bard), others will require reconstruction using 1e as a template (Assassin), and others still should be a matter of reskinning (persistent idea of mine: reskin Al-Qadim's genie-binding Sha'ir as a Warlock, substituting genies for demons and devils). Most are fine as is.

Modern-Day Spy Thriller D&D. Take some iteration of the TSR-era D&D engine and use it to play a spy thriller game. Throw in rules for hacking, gadgetry and martial arts. Leave supernatural stuff as an option. I wouldn't even know where to start but it'd be kick-ass.

Neither of which is an original game, natch, but for someone who's never written a game from the ground up, a variant is probably the best place to start.

Is there a Wiki for it or something?

I've officially started on this, and what's more, I'm asking for help paying me to write it.  Check it out: http://www.indiegogo.com/heavensshadow?a=805122
