This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Red Flags of Good Game Design

Quote from: silva;645750I think the hobby's default/traditional model of combat resolution (an entire sub-system full of minutia and idiossincrasies) is an artifact from its wargaming roots.
So, however, are the much more "quick and dirty" models found in early games such as D&D and T&T.

I would say that what we see today owes more to a shift from the original miniatures-hobby ethos to a boardgame-hobby ethos.

Whether yielding more detailed simulation or greater abstraction, the latter is much more attuned to the institution of hard and fast rules laid down by 'professional' authorities, less attuned to the tradition of the Game Master using "house rules" and ad hoc adjudication.
And we are here as on a darkling plain  ~ Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, ~ Where ignorant armies clash by night.

Quote from: Phillip;645864I see it in Gleichman's Designer's Notes from a dozen years ago, and can only wonder how he became the enfant terrible he is today.

Dealing with the likes of  TristramEvans, Pundit, and others here. Such hatred for different opinions causes the target to dig in and state things more strongly than is actually the case. You for example see those notes as reasonable, they would be strongly hated here.

Talk shit.

Cry and claim martyrdom when kids are mean to you.

Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed
