This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Crazy idea - CCG role playing

I'd like to see a story/card game that did acted a little more like a traditional card game than a CCG. I have an idea for a game--with non-collectable cards--that works like a cross between Once Upon A Time and bridge for a while. You play story elements together, in turn, until someone takes the trick. You don't want to take it before the good cards are in the pot, but you don't want to wait too long, so someone else takes it. The story builds, trick by trick, chapter by chapter, to a climactic battle.

When all the cards have been taken, they are then played as a combat game. We've done this different ways, but it usally comes out as a cross between War and Bullshit. We're sort of playing it now with Tarot card, but I think I need more cards. Maybe two Tarot Decks shuffled together, with just one set of trumps. I don't know. I'd also like to add betting and make it a kind of narrative bourre, but I haven't tried that yet.
Employment Counselor: So what do you like to do outside of work?
Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.
EC: My cousin killed himself because of role-playing games.
OG: Jesus, what was he playing? Rifts?

I wish instead of Eberron they'd made Dominaria- the game world of Magic: The Gathering. I would've bought the hell out of it.
I use Magic cards while playing D&D as props, illustrations, treasure, monster ideas.
