What do you think of a cleric that cannot turn undead, but is immune to level drain? This would include ghoul paralysis, shadow strength drain, &c.
It wouldn't be a blanket immunity, the character would have to make a save (Death) or perhaps succeed in an appropriate turning check. If the check succeeds, the energies are repulsed, and the undead touch just does its basic damage.
I think that cleric's going to take point in any crypts or graveyards.
Generally, I like it that characters are good in different situations, as it creates some natural role-playing where each character wants to do stuff that they're good at. This character is potentially annoying because what they're good at only benefits them. A cleric who can only do self-healing would be very similar. If they're not ready to step up and be the tank (diverting attacks from other characters because they can handle them better), then I don't like it.
That's a good point. How about they can shield X number of characters from level drain, dependent on turning check? It couldn't last that long, a turn per use let's say.
