This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Character Repository Thread

Here's the idea: Members post one of their played characters from any system, and people can discuss the characters.

There are only four real guidelines that I'd ask everyone to follow:
  • This thread should remain system neutral.  Any character from any game system can be posted.
  • Keep system attacks out of the thread.  Talk about the character, it's build, motivations, exploits, etc., but not how "system 'x' suckz ballz and you're a lozer for playing" it type of bullshit.
  • The character posted should have been played at some point.  So, just don't post characters that you created screwing around or testing the system out.  We're looking for actual play characters, although they don't have to be currently active, just played at least once in a live game.  Also, live game can mean face-to-face, play-by-post, play-by-email, virtual tabletop, etc.  As long as the character has been played once and received the system's reward (i.e. experience points, character points, skill rolls, etc.).
  • Explain any House Rules that the character was created using.  This will help another reader to understand the character posted.  For example, let's say that your DM grants an extra bonus feat at first level.  So, you posted character has one more feat than a RAW character.  Other readers may not understand why your character has that extra feat.  If you point it out ahead of time, it can cut off any confusion for other readers.

I think that this could turn into a very interesting thread.  I hope that others here do as well.

Okay, I'll get the ball rolling.  I talked about my bugbear ranger briefly in another thread today, so I'll post him.  Yes, his name was jacked from the bugbear character example in the 3.5 D&D Savage Species book.

I don't quite remember the method to generate his ability scores, but the majority of my group are stat whores and so he had some uber stats starting off.  Definitely not the normal array. ;)

Also, he does have three greatswords currently.  He just got the Farslayer sword, and I'm still undecided on which sword to get rid off, either the Parrying or Thundering greatsword.  I'm leaning to get rid of the Parrying greatsword, but still on the fence really.  Maybe I could get some suggestions on which to keep and scrap.

D'oh!

I forgot to add that you should name the system that the character was created with.

Gnarsht, the above bugbear was created using 4e Dugeons & Dragons.

Drohem

Hehehehe.... nothing, bubkiss.  I figured as much.

Now, I challenge all the role-playing members of this community to post at least one of their characters played, no matter what system, in or out of print.

I throw down the gauntlet!

*slap in the face with glove*

Your move sir!

David R

Speaking as a GM, I could tell you about the Aenar (Andorian) arms dealer the PCs in my Trek campaign are tangling with....oh, I just did.

Regards,
David R

DEX = 5

Possessions:
Black Market Combat Armor with Camo-Stealth system (tech 13)
Automatic Shotgun with 30 round banana magazines
5 Tactical Nuclear Missiles (don't ask)
Electronic Wheelchair (for high grav planets)
Gold Watch (retirement)
20 zip ties
3 High Passage tickets
Hand Computer (tech 13)
140,000 credits

Grandpa was my character for my buddy's Classic Traveller campaign we ran for almost two years (x2/mo) and poor Grandpa did survive 3 sessions.   I played him as an ornery old cuss who escaped a nursing home, stole his retirement money back from his asshole kids and hooked up with the PCs who included a Noble in Battle Dress and retired Scout with a beat-up wreck of a space ship.   Our first adventure took us to a high tech, low law level planet and Grandpa went nuts shopping.   Our second adventure took us to a craphole with a highly corrossive atmosphere where we got caught up dealing with an insurgency against the below ground dwelling government.   A fire fight ensued.   The GM rolled a 12 to hit (2D6 system) and penetrated my combat armor with an SMG round.   I took 12 points of damage.   For those of you who know Classic Trav, you can see Grandpa had 8 hit points. :(

So my 2nd character was one of the insurgency guys who surrendered to the PCs and begged them for passage off the planet.   He was named Lieutenant Borat and he just wanted to breathe real air, see the sky and have sexy time.

Drohem

Thank you for sharing GRANDPA! with us. :)  I liked his little sayings, "don't ask" and "won't say."  He went out in a blaze of glory, and that must have been fun to play out.

Here's one of mine.
The system is HeroQuest and the setting is Firefly's 'verse.
Portrayed in Alien: Resurrection by Ron Perlman, he is one of the more colourful characters of broken down ship, The Betty. Joss Whedon's first stab at a misfit crew of smugglers onboard an old, broken-down ship.

Johner

Johner's Story
"My own recipe. Way more dangerous."
"You hang with us a while, you'll learn I'm not the man with whom to fuck."

Johner is a mercenary, hired by Elgyn as extra muscle, but has chosen to stay onboard the Betty " 'Cause pay's good and regular". Johner is thickset, mean and ugly, with vivid scars crisscrossing his ugly baldhead, and has an ugly temper to match.
Johner talks-before-he-thinks, often saying the most inappropriate comments but his coarseness occasionally provides paradoxical humour. He is self-centred and has a schadenfreude streak that boarders on sadistic; he scares and unnerves all that he meets.
Johner is accomplished in battle [his love of big guns and loud bangs is renowned], skilled at bashing-in heads and can brawl in the dirt with the best of 'um.

Cool!  Thanks for sharing Darran.  Ron Perlman was one of the very few things that made that movie palatable.  Johner looks cool and fun to play.
