This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Blackhand

Sir Ector is perplexed by some of the rumors.  In the short span of time we have, he tries to find out more about the 'fair maiden' and 'old hermit' from the commoners, who don't tend to look down on him as much since they don't have any idea who he is.

If necessary, a gold coin should grease the wheels.

I would like to contract Gorin, and offer 6gp for two weeks, with the extra being made up from my share of the treasure if we are successful.  The hermit sounds intriguing, he may have some information my order would find useful.  The maiden in danger is certainly a worthy quest, and should bring accord to this rough band and raise their esteem in the eyes of the locals.

OOC: Is there map of this Keep on the Borderlands available?

Tetnuca inquires with locals about a Tannery or Leathersmith. Failing that, he'll look for a smith or ironworker. He is looking to order or commission a large Spear Quarrel, one that he can attach to his saddle.

Sir Ector is unable to divulge any more information about these rumors.  It appears no one really knows all that much.

Gorin happily agrees to join the group, and is equipped with basic equipment.

As for maps, your research and working with Fyodor has revealed the following maps:

D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Unless there is a woodsman who knows these lands as well as his own house, I suggest we take the road to the caverns.  Once we get in the area, a bit of foraging should give us a better idea of how to approach them.  Goblins are but a nuisance in small numbers; if they have settled into the caves, it will be difficult to safely achieve our goals and return.

A keep, eh?  Sir Ector is now interested very much in the fastness and it's location.  One keep is a good start.

Shall we dally no longer, my comrades?  Perhaps we can reclaim some of the townsfolks' goods and monies from these bandits, and I'm sure there will be plenty for ourselves as well.

Tetnuca agrees with the Cleric.

"Going by road is ok. More chance to meet other adventurers. Goblins are plentiful in my homeland, almost as plentiful as shrunken goblin heads."

He laughs and brandishes his spear with a stabbing motion to emphasize just how the goblins had their heads shrunk.

(I thought we were at the keep.  If not, where are we?)

Yes, you are at the keep.  What sort of marching order will there be, if one at all or just sort of go on the fly?

I am open to suggestion, but here is a preliminary:

Medwen    Sir Ector
Tetnuca   Brun
    Zephiros
Fyodor    Gorin
Medwen and Sir Ector have melee weapons; Tetnuca can use a spear over Medwen's head (for protection); I can move forward or stay and protect Zephiros, who can cast in pretty much any direction; Fyodor can toss a spear or move forward, to the left flank or protect the rear; Gorin can shoot from the rear rank, move to the right flank, and protect from rear attacks.

"Sir Ector, will you lead this stout band into the wilderness and adventure, with Medwen as your second?"

"Aye, sounds good to me... we're a fine bunch for some goblin slaying. But that Alat sounds like a fine lad. Wouldn't hurt to bring another along."

I'll offer him three gold a week.

Tetnuca: I figure Medwen, over the past few days, has discussed Goblin-fighting with you. He story that he seemed most proud of (And this was after a few beers) was the time that Medwen and a group of his mining colleagues burst through into a Goblin cave, interrupting a small group trying to do some sort of ritual. Medwen killed the one leading the ritual, a goblin in furs with various trinkets, by kicking him backwards into the ritual area, where the goblin tripped and impaled his head on a particularly pointy candlestick.

I'm fine with the marching order.

Did we ever decide on getting a mule or extra supplies? We have hired two retainers thus far, does anyone have supplies for them?

We are setting off to the caves then?
