This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm curious about Warcosm. What scale are you looking at (how many ships per player)?
Probably more than four to last a decent amount of time and less than 12.

Quote from: LancerWow. This sounds promising! Brett, will the powers system be based on effects (ala HERO, Atomik Plugins) or will it be more of a shopping list?
The powers will vary. Some affect abilities (heroic awareness, for example), some add an extra capability to an ability (like flight which requires a fitness+athletics task or IR-vision which acts like a normal sense), others act as new skills. Limitations can also be added to powers, like requiring a gadget or causing fatigue.

New World Disorder and Warcosm are both nearing completion. Here are new cover thumbnails for NWD and Tombstones n' Tumbleweeds.

Stop making so many great games and leave room for the rest of us! ;)

Between you and Clash, the market is saturated. I'm going to start making chap books instead of RPGs.

Well, New World Disorder is done and out of the way. Now for something else... :)

The Ghostories Enhancement Pack is now also done.

Now I'm working on a few things, but one that is really in my head is the revision of the genreDiversion rules. While still part of the genreDiversion line of easy-to-learn and quick-to-play rules, new titles will use the Story Engine Trio rules. Here's an outline of changes from the GDi system:

1. Skills; rating scale of 1-8 is replaced by incompetency (-1), untrained (0), proficiency (+1), specialty (+2), and mastery (+3).

2. Health; a new element, called threshold, is added -- it is the amount of damage than can be sustained before a health level is increased.

3. Gimmicks; graded gimmicks (like the existing toughness gimmick) can be taken multiple times for multiple penalties/bonuses; ability gimmicks refine abilties (like flairs in Iron Gauntlets).

4. Die Mechanic; now 2d6 + ability + skill roll over or equal difficulty (8+); difficulty designations remain the same, only the numbers change.

5. Defense; passive defense for all characters during close combat, provides a simply difficulty value. Only active defense, which requires a full turn, becomes a contested task.

6. Auto Weapons; new rules for burst fire and full-auto fire.

7. Overkill; beat the difficulty by a certain amount and special effects are applied to tasks based on the character's skill. Some examples include extra damage, hitting multiple targets, penetrating armor, pulling a punch, and pinning.

I got the Ghostories Classics Pack out of the way and the hard part of the theRPGsite server migration is done, so I can work on getting some more projects completed.

I hope to have Warcosm done in the next few weeks. I just need to finish laying out the battle scenarios, random scenario generator, and odds and ends, as well as a final proofreading.

Casablanca for Mean Streets GDi and Submariners for EarthAD.2 are up next for finalization. I'll probably work on these at the same time, since the rules are mostly the same.

Then I'll likely move on to finalizing Mean Streets for Two-Fisted Tales, converting the Disposable Heroes HARP Customizable set to a Statix set (along with some retouching; the last one for conversion), start finalizing the Story Engine GD mechanics for Maelstrom Crossroads, and revising Tombstones n' Tumblweeds.

With Warcosm out of the way, I'm working on consolidating Story Engine and GDi into the new beast that is Story Engine Trio. It will be a much stronger system, focusing on abilities rather than skills in much the same way that Two-Fisted Tales does. The 2d6 Roll-Over mechanics make it slightly different from GDi, but compatibility is maintained. It also integrates with Impresa and Story Engine, so that when the full Universal Story Engine 3E rules are released, working with scene-based resolution and adjective-based characters won't be a problem. Furthermore, the system is scalable and supports epic/bonus effects readily.

Excellent, Brett! After many years of debate with Clash, I've come to realize that, yes, system does matter. Score one for the old man.

It depends though. You have the people who just need a foundation with which to tell stories and then you have people who need over the top (the same ones who like to look at anime cleavage and talk about their 5th-level wizards). :)

Then you will have a fully rounded framework-type meta-system, which we both have been working towards for a long while. I'm not much of a story-guy - "Story Happens" is pretty much a trademarked phrase of mine - but I'm glad you have integrated it into your framework! That puts you ahead of me on our coincidental quest... :D

As a consequence of your conversion, however, it now takes me two years to complete a project; whereas before it took me two weeks.:D

I really need to settle on something like you and Brett have done. Ah, the quest continues.:(

I don't settle. It's a never-ending evolution. :)

Ah, touché. Quite true. And, by the way, I like the way it is evolving. Keep it up.

On a related note, do you have any plans to expand the Coyote Trail system?
