This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So here's a question.  (I know you're out there, I can hear you breathing.)

My rules or a systemless sourcebook?  I don't have playtesters and from past experience it seems that people generally played with whatever rules they happened to like.  I could allow people to put up their conversions to various systems and stuff.

I'd do it with GURPS (being a sick minded individual) but SJG would look pretty dimly on that.

What you talkin' 'bout, Willis? You mean "along with," Right?

Right?

I like the rules,  David. I'd go with them rather than systemless. The pseudo biblical language is beautiful, but the rules are definitely clearer in plain English. Mybe you should present them both ways?

Yeah, because I'm a horrible flip flopper, it's just that the simpler game is likely to get finished first.

I'd be a terrible freelancer because I'm just not great at sticking with one project.  My current projects cue looks like this.  There's a reason things move along slowly :D

Sculpt 54mm modern and sf guys to cast.
Build 54mm modular scenery.
Paint Beastman Army.
Build Warhammer Scenery.  (castle, daveohex, village)
Write "among the beautiful creatures" stuff.
Illustrate "among the beautiful creatures"
Illustrate The Covenant Generation & Nine Worlds Ring
Design vehicles and equipment for Galaxies in Shadow.
Mess with Galaxies in Shadow alien creation until it works right.
Sculpt Spacemaster Privateers figures.
Write Spacemaster Introductory Adventure.
Draw and Write Issue 2 of Paradise In Decay comic.
Fiddle with WAGNER the sf rules that put the Opera back in Space Opera.

I have it from an unimpeachable source that Wagner's music is better than it sounds...

See, I've always wanted to do an sf setting where music doesn't have psychic power itself but is very useful for focussing it.  In particular it is very good at producing the same emotions and desires in large groups of people.  So you get radical musician/psychics trying break down society and conservative musician/psychics trying to preserve it.

Add to that an alien race of bat-like ninja jedi that's just routed the greatest threat the universe has ever known and is out looking for seconds, a culture called The Harmony that wants to bring peace and tranquilty to the entire universe and is expanding almost as fast as the bat jedi ninjas, but without ever striking a blow.

And all hell breaks loose.

More on Magic

Great is the knowledge of the spirits.  Greater is the folly of those who trust all they are told.  By means of Auguries a magician can commune with spirits in his vicinity and compel them to answer.  Only in the most Amazing of auguries will the spirits reveal the whole truth of what they know for spirits are fickle and amused by whatever confusion they may sow.   Though lesser efforts provide some measure of truth, this must needs be sifted with the utmost care.

Magicians which wish to Conjure up spirits from distant places must disturb them with words and signs which pass as a rumour through the ether.  Those spirits thus commanded to appear often take offense at the imposition and thusly more spiteful that those resident in a given place.

Even spirits embodied in mortal forms are susceptible to Compulsions should the magician be able to over come their Character in a contest.  Only in the most Amazing of circumstances does a Compulsion provide control which continues beyond the magician's immediate vicinity and direction.  In Exceptional cases the subject remains compliant only so long as the magician is able to focus the totality of their will upon the task.  Else the compulsion endures sufficiently long for the subject to complete a simple task.

Stranger Things

A wanderer shapes himself out of the darkness.  Tall and clean of form, like a god of the innocents, slender and symmetrical, striding through the void with confidence and purpose.  The challenge of the scouts he meets with good cheer, smiling broadly with sharp teeth as white as fine porcelain.  "I am called The Stranger, and the Bogey Man, though I am not known for my dancing." proclaims this singular being, not in the least disconcerted upon finding himself in the midst of monsters.  "I am going from this place to that through this that is not a place in search of naughty children far from home.  Have you lost shadows of worlds consumed with darkness seen any in your travelling?"  The being is not interested in returning to the host with the scouts, nor is he willing to divulge the mystery of his passage from realm to realm.  "I am where I need to be, when I need to be there.  That should give you pause for there is nothing more dreadful which you might chance upon in this place that is not."

Well, it took a while but the second edition "among the beautiful creatures" playtest draft is done.  I got side tracked by the AWESOME project for a while.  But that helped me to get past a rules roadblock I'd run into and now I'm pretty happy with it.
