This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anyone else in the Industry sick of being confused with a Computer game designer?

Quote from: Eidolon;494640I HATE HATE HATE that computer games are allowed to be called RPGs. It's insulting and demeaning.

It also makes google searches that much harder.

In real life my profession (landscape architect) is constantly confused with garden landscapers. It seems kind of poetic, in a really bad way, that every person I tell about AEON thinks it's a computer game.

I wish people could just learn to say, "What's that?" if they don't know something ...

Quote from: dsivis;494583Reminds me of people ask me what my favorite dinosaur is. FYI: I'm an archaeologist. Of course, then I have to explain that I don't know how to use a whip, nor am I afraid of snakes. I usually make jokes about it.

I actually had exactly the same thought.
You are posting in a troll thread.

Great, now when I take my Archaeology course I'm going to have to fight the impule to act confused and keep asking questions about dinosaurs,

"Wait, wait....so when do we get to see the dinosaur skeletons?"
Yeah, but who gives a fuck? You? Jibba?

Well congrats. No one else gives a shit, so your arguments are a waste of breath.

Nah, mostly you'll be entertained by batshit crazy professors for a few years before hitting the dole queue with everyone else!

Trust me, I was there up to MA level.

Naw, it doesn't bother me.

What does bug me is as soon as people hear that I'm a writer, they automatically assume I do nothing but hang out in coffee shops smoking cloves and drinking expresso.

Most people can't seem to understand that writing involves a lot more than sitting in front of a computer screen and typing whatever random thing comes into your head.

And why shouldn't computer games be referred to as RPG's? Games like Neverwinter Nights, Dead Space, Mass Effect, Dragon's Age, all are roleplaying games. What would you call them?
I am becoming more and more hollow, and am not sure how much of the man I was remains.

J Arcane

I did more roleplaying in NWN and Mass Effect than with my last D&D group.
