This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Soon to be Named 1940's Hybrid

I am slowly getting the Hybrid Game together, and have settled on using a roll under d12; and trying to keep the entire rules around 20 pages (MAX).  It will contain maps, and Pre-Gens on a sheet a little larger than a business card.  We are trying to have a board game feel, with turn play and customization in the Scenarios that are included.  It should also lend itself out as a Sandbox 1940's America, rules light RPG that can see characters made in a few minutes.

at least that's the plan.  Here are some pics of the inside, and a test cover.

Fedoras & Femme Fatales is what I'd name it.

Good name!  Not sure yet on the title, but here is the Character Sheet Idea so far.  Simple, small, about a 3.5 x 5 Note card.

One with a Picture, One with a space available to attach a Picture, and one with a blank spot for drawing.

14 pages are complete in the rule book, and 10 classes are written. I have about two to three to go and that will be done.  Each has 2 special abilities and 2 standard weapons.  Once this part is done I'll flush out the d12 roll under system.  The basic so far is this:

Every score is a fail rate from 1 - 12.  Say a Search of 7.
If there is a search with a difficulty under 7 (room search difficulty level 4) you can succeed without a roll.
If the Difficulty matches or is higher than your Fail rate, roll 1d12.
If that number (in this case 7) is UNDER your target you succeed.
If you roll a 7 on a 7 fail rate (or higher) it is a fail.

Example:  Players enter a room with three objects to find.
1) Note from the Home Owner (Search Difficulty 3)
2) Lamp with a Key underneath (Search difficulty 7)
3) Book that controls a secret door (Search Difficulty 11)
A Player with a Search of 7 declares they will search the room for these known items, and will immediately find the note.
Player will have to roll 1d12 and score under their fail rate of 7 once for each other item that needs to be found.
Regent (GM) decides if a search fail can be rerolled as they continue to look.

So far...

12 classes complete, attributes and 1d12 system complete, artwork for the Paper miniatures complete, first draft of the printable maps complete.   It has been a blessed week

rway218

Completion of the Paper Miniatures is going slow, but the artwork looks nice.  Maps have been resized for use, and will be print tested this weekend (if nothing happens).  The Character Creation section looks to be a single page, not including the Class Descriptions.

Notes:
The Working Title is now Notorious based off the 1940's film of the same name.
Pre-Gens are totally complete and print ready in the book.
Character Sheets are formatted to three on a page, with a section for notes.
There are 15 Character Portraits ready to print and add to a personal Character Sheet.
Formatting is being done as the writing is being done - Brown Paper Background, Remington Typewriter font, single column design, Artwork adjusted and added as it goes.

That's all for now.  Hopefully the Beta Test will be soon... maybe sometime after June 11th...

Brown paper background sounds like a bad idea. I have seen some games that go for those odd colors for their paper, usually grey tones, and they just make it harder to read the rules.

Two-column format is much more readable as well.

Thanks for the input.  :) Styles will be printed in several formats for the playtest and I do like feedback.  I'll post a sample page of the current version soon.

We just finished 24 paper miniatures with 15 Character Tokes and 9 Monster Tokens.  That should be a start.

*EDIT* here is a sample page

It looks like the size has increased.

80 pages with one map, and only larger from there.  The maps and Paper Miniatures take up quite a bit of space.  The Mansion map is 36 pages and needs assembly prior to use.  But it looks good when it's together.

The Final count of the pdf was 78 pages.  14 pages of rules, 9 pages of Character Classes, the rest are Pre-Gens, Monsters, Premade Adventures (2) with a printable 48 x 55 inch map (sectioned off to print and assemble) Paper Miniatures and some extra adventure notes.  We are live on DriveThruRPG with a downloadable draft.  it can be purchased now, but is up to get a good copy to our play testers outside the Kansas City area.  If you have a group that wants to do a play test, hit me up and I'll get with you.  Only four groups will be taken, and each will get one PDF copy to use and abuse.

Our new banner is out on DriveThruRPG  The Game is open for sale as a beta (to insure copyright).  Feedback on the game is always welcome, and play tests are on going.  The uploaded version plays really well, and will be updated with any changes that come from test games... including yours if you hit us up and tell us.  :)
