Title: An Index away from completion
Post by: JohnnyWannabe on December 09, 2007, 10:14:56 AM
Yes, I am approaching the end of another RPG project, and it's the end I fear the most. The 200 or so interior pages were a breeze to create in comparison to the last two pages of the entire project. I'm talking about the Index.

Since I have failed to master the Index function in InDesign, I have to wade through the process manually.:combust:

This is not fun. But, I will prevail!:hyper:

Oh yes, the point of this thread . . . Does anyone have an easy, surefire method to put together a proper Index?

Congratulations on your success at completing the project...aside from the semantics of an index.

I almost chuckle at some of the older game-system indexes I have run across....such as reporting a topic on page 213 in a 186 page book...

Good job. I know how tough they can be. (I did one manually for an earlier draft of a game, I've now completely rewritten *LOL*)

I'd laugh, but for some reason I feel that peron's pain.

Egads, man! Now, you have to suffer through another index.

Is this a pdf only product? If so, you don't need an index. The reader can use the search function for that.

Crud, Rich! Did you send me your ad for this? I forgot all about putting it in Aces And Angels!

I would disagree. Indexing, bookmarking and TOC all play an important role in any book.

Hear, hear! Search functions only find specific terms, a good index should group all related terms together.

Actually, it's both. Otherwise, I'd just use bookmarks.

No worries. It was my fault. I forgot to send you the ad.

If my high-speed internet gets back up to speed I'll upload it tonight or tomorrow.

Bah! I'm already working on at least 4 more projects - Glorianna, IHW:Pigboats, IHW:Wild Blue, and Commonwealth Space. The bat never sleeps! :O

HAHA! That's because the bat is famous and his fans demand more, more, more.

As for me . . . everything I create quickly and quietly escapes into obscurity. I am like the Shadow that way.:p
